Review summary

Overall the cruise was a good one. We have been on 25 cruises and this one would rate about a 7 out of 10. We enjoyed the shows. Grease was very good. Please adhere to the "for mature audiences only". This is not the movie. Columbus was like a train wreck that one could not look away. With that said, the talent is excellent and the set work is amazing. Fine Line aqua show was, well, interesting. Again, the individual talent is great. "Spinning guy" was amazing, but I could not understand why the spinning had anything to do with the story. The Heist which is the other aqua show was fun. 1887, the ice show, was interesting, and very good. The standout was the woman who performed with hula hoops. The cabin was a typical balcony. Do not expect five star dining, but the food is adequate. Chops was disappointing and we were surprised by this. To their credit, they attempted to "make it right", but we had a show to go to. My favorite part of the cruise were the guests. Everyone we came in contact with were very nice. Of course there are always those that bother you. Especially those that browbeat the employees (confronted someone who was so mean to an employee at breakfast), but I refused to let these people get to me and affect my cruise.

Ship tip

One piece of advice that comes to mind is chose off times to eat in the Windjammer. You could get a table if you went at 1PM instead of 12PM. I always ate breakfast any time between 6:30AM and 8AM. After 8AM the crowds arrive.

We have been to St Maarten several times. We have been on the Golden Eagle (LOVE) a few times. This time we went downtown. The effects of the hurricane is still evident. Also the jewelry is not what it was in the past. The prices are less expensive at various venues in the states. I really wanted to by a certain piece of jewelry and I found it. But I had already seen it in the states for 500.00 less. When I told them this, the salesperson just walked away.

San Juan, Puerto Rico Did not visit port

I belong to the Salvation Army and wanted to volunteer for the day in clean up. Unfortunately we had to be back on board at 1:30PM. The opportunity had to be cancelled, and we stayed on board.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Being at Labadee was relaxing. The food was not great, but I did not have to cook so it is all good.

We had similar experience on Harmony and while it was not horrible but it was not top notch like we had expected. We prefer Carnival but we are gonna try Freedom of the Seas to give Royal a fair shot. We felt like the Diamond people (and yes they have earned their status) we far more rude than on Carnival, we had been told on several occasions that if we was diamond status we could be accommodated! Really we paid good money too, we went to Sabor twice and on second night they ran out of avocados but the waiter said if we had diamond status he could get them for us, and Jonny rockets ran out of vanilla flavoring for Come and same senario happened! That was after we encountered an older couple at breakfast belittling a waitress at mini bites and yelling at her and flat out lied and I was totally appalled and this poor girl was crying and her manager took their word which was so wrong! This was our first Royal Cruise and we was not going to sail again on them but we decided to give a fair shot and try one more time, so in 25 days they get to redeem themselves lol
