Nice Cruise by cyndi439

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The biggest thing I want to say is that this ship is headed for refurbishment in two months.  It's time!  Overall, great ship, enjoyed our stateroom, but my room was feeling some age.  My mattress was completely broken down, with a huge hole that I filled with a pillow.  An ENTIRE bed pillow!  My poor back was glad to get home.  And I hope they do something about the showers while they're at it.  This was our 6th cruise, and the smallest shower I've ever been in.  I'm glad I'm not an obese person, it was claustrophobic as it was.  I don't know how larger passengers handle the size!

That aside, the ship layout is great (I like the "atrium" style) and I liked that it wasn't a huge ship.  Felt a little more personal that way.  Staff went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable.  There were some passengers on our trip who had a bad experience (yikes, pool sprung a leak and emptied into several staterooms, they had to send those poor people home because there weren't extra rooms!) and one of my dinner table mates had mold in her room which made her sick ... but these are issues that I'm sure will be resolved in refurbishment.

Food in the dining room was very good.  Food in the buffet was average.  Seating in the buffet was stress-inducing.  Dining staff was EXTRAORDINARY.  Can't say that enough.

One thing I didn't like, they're ALWAYS trying to upsell you on stuff.  Filet mignon at dinner costs $20 extra.  They have specialty restaurants, $35 a pop.  Extra costs for tours, like the galley tour with a special brunch.  They charge for the yoga and other fitness classes.  We did take advantage of some of these and enjoyed the experiences we paid for, but it's nice to be aware ahead of time so you can budget for extras like these.  This was our first cruise out of Baltimore, which we LOVED because we didn't have to pay for airfare ... fortunately, this left us with a few extra dollars we could use on the trip.  We did not take advantage of a drinks package, which was a good move.  But did purchase a coffee punch card for the Starbucks place.  Have to watch the people behind the counter, though ... depends on who's working ... they use an extra punch for venti.  One lady charged two punches for grande, which was wrong.

Ports of call were nice.  Loved visiting a couple of US ports on this trip, on top of the Bahamas.  Unfortunately, rough seas did not allow us to visit Coco Cay, their private island, and our final stop ... I had put all my eggs in one basket for a beach day, so kind of blew it on that.  All the way down to the Bahamas in February, and no sand between my toes.  Oh well.  Apparently this happens frequently, we talked to another passenger who had taken 4 cruises in the area and never once got to visit Coco Cay.  It looked beautiful from the ship's view!

There was always something going on, onboard.  Lots of programs in the common areas, and EXCELLENT musicians and shows.  But this cruise seemed to be an "older" group of passengers, so the energy was a little different than we're used to.  It was still fun, and everyone we met was very friendly.

In general, I would recommend this cruise.  But AFTER they refurbish the ship -- it will be much more comfortable.

Not the Best but still enjoyable by rockpile45

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Boarding and getting off was the smoothest of any cruise I've been on.  The ship arrived back in Baltimore a few minutes before 7AM and we were off and on the road by 7:30AM

The ship is getting pretty old but the crew keeps it clean and service from the room steward and dining room staff is excellent.

Food is mediocre at best in both the main dining room and in the Windjammer. Quality needs to improve.

Entertainment was pretty good throughout the cruise.  All in all, not the best cruise I've been on but not the worst either.  We are scheduled for a 9 day cruise on this same ship coming up at the end of this month.  I think that will be it for Royal Caribbean for a while.

away from your daily life; work, email, phone, bills, etc.  This is my favorite part.

someone cook, clean, clean you room, etc for you...you don't have to do anything except go to restaurant and eat...

Amazing Cruise...Ready to go again!!! by DottieLorenz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The ports are my favorite part, but the ship and the Specialty Restaurants are a close second.  The main dining room is great, but the specialty restaurants are just amazing.  Loved the Chef's Table.  It was a memorable experience and probably the best meal outside of my own cooking!  I'm pretty good!!!  It's great to be pampered though.  We started out the first night with a couples massage which was so relaxing and set the mood for the rest of the 12 days.  Love

great 12 day cruise by xzoam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was our fourth time on the Grandeur. Great for the money. Had very good food and service. Lots of things to do on the ship on sea days. This was our first time sailing as diamond members and it was nice to finally achieve this level. The members lounge was great for drinks and appetizers, The concierge and waiters gave us excellent service and always with a smile. The concierge was especially helpful and would never hesitate to help  out when needed.

The Not So Grandeur of the Seas by NoTanLines

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This ship has a great itinerary, but the ship is in great need of the drydock repairs it will receive in April.  The entertainment is somewhat lacking of what we have had on other Royal cruises.

Booked our next cruise before we left the boat! by dolloff7851

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was our second cruise but our first with Royal Caribbean. The staff was exceptional!!! So friendly and eager to make your experience "top notch" ! The Virgin Islands were gorgeous with beautiful scenery and  excellent weather! This cruise was so relaxing with dinner served and wonderful shows. Not a cruise for the young though. Average age of guests approx. 70yrs. My daughter was one of 7 teens on board with a total of 17 children out of approx. 1,900 guests.

Compliments and Gripes by poshbrits

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The entertainment was great.  From the Acts that came on board, to the on board bands.  Nick Erwin was fabulous, as was the band, Rookie.  The local bands were also very good.  Lora on the piano bar was entertaining and was very friendly.

Our statement room attendant, Alex was excellent and gave us very good service. Also our formal dining staff was excellent as well. The food was so so.  the curries were the exception and were great.

Bobby and Tanya were great as well.

Fun but also disappointed by christinez11259

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My favorite part of the cruise was getting off at the different ports and exploring.the crew was also very friendly The food wasn't all that great and most of the time was room temperature, not hot...also I was very disappointed that due to delay because of a lifeboat falling, the excursions for the next day were cancelled. Part of the reason I went on this cruise was to get to go to sea world in Orlando but unfortunately I never made it there because of this delay... I wouldnt recommend this boat ( grandeur of the seas) because there wasn't a lot to do, and dont know if I'd recommend royal Caribbean in general because of the disappointments I had.

Great Cruise from Baltimore by Cruiser32986133

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our 3rd cruise on Granduer of the Seas.  We like the ship because it is smaller and you get to know the staff better.  Our room attendant was the best (Ron).  He was always around if we needed anything.  Our granddaughter was with us (8 years old) and she really enjoyed Adventure Ocean and having dinner in the dining room.  I wish you would build a new small ship that could leave out of Baltimore.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Relaxation plus....Food was excellent, the entertainment was great, always something to do if you wanted activity or just relax. Staff was fantastic always in an uplifting mood ready to help if needed, The dining room staff knew our names and after 2 nights knew what we liked on the menu. Casino didn't pay at all..but that is normal. Room staff was so pleasant and gave us many good laughs with our towel animals.

Great Time and excellent Cruise except food served was not Royal Caribbean Best. by mannyphoto

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

I am a Diamond Plus Royal Caribbean Cruiser and have cruised on several other Cruise lines (currently we've been on 68 cruises). This one was great as always because the staff was excellent, the passengers friendly. and the entertainment

great but the food was not. We received food that wasn't cook and/or they did not have a variety of food. Several days we did not have any beef selection (yes there was a Hamburger slider for dinner but that was it at several dinners in the main restaurant.. I get tired of chicken and fish without the accommodation of Beef.. . especially at dinner.

Royal Caribbean Going Downhill by pwgriger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

Third cruise with Royal Caribbean and have noted several changes-mostly negative.  On arrival at terminal, no cabin found for us.  Had to have a key card made and camera malfunctioned.  Took 45 minutes to check-in.  Luggage not delivered to cabin.  Had to pick it up on deck 1.  Told alcohol was in luggage.  Went to deck 1 opened luggage for attendant and nothing was found.  Asked for assistance getting luggage to cabin and told none available.  Dining schedule screwed up for all couples in our party.  Food in dining room has totally changed.  Ate most meals at the buffet.  Activities that were previously free now have a charge (scrapbooking, crafts, etc.)  Bathroom flooded from shower malfunction.  Took two days to make adequate repair. There's more but my fingers are getting tired.

Sunny and warm by Cruiser38729468

Entertainment and shows were excellent.  Enjoyed early dinner seating. A relaxing three days

at sea before reaching first port of US Virgin Islands.  Nice to receive a daily "Cruise Compass"

in your cabin each night showing what is going on the following day.

Relaxing Winter Cruise by DeCruzerMon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We're loyal to Royal cruisers. This cruise was 3 1/2 days down to the Caribbean with stops at four ports, then 3 1/2 days back to Baltimore. Of course this time of year, the weather's as you'd expect (cold rainy with some spitting of snow). So no getting outside on the walking or pool decks. However, the entertainment staff and activities aboard ship more than made up for the inconvenience. Warm Caribbean winds and hot sunshine made up for all that. We truly enjoyed meeting new friends and seeing returning cruise mates. Other than a disappointing specialty dinner in Giovanni's Table - Italian Restaurant - all's well and good. Thanks to our travel agent who got us a perfect balcony. We'll be signing up for more cruises.Happy

Orchestra was great.

Did not like the smoking area was on the same side as the ice cream and where the smokers smoke blew across the pool. Very allergic to smoking sets off Asthma.

It's been a good vacation by hychen

All staff are very friendly and accommodating. Shows in the evenings have room for improvement; not much on quality but on variety if the budget slows.
