Review summary

Overall the cruise was amazing. We had some rough seas on the return trip, but you can't control the weather. Make the best with what you have to do.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I purchased the Key for my daughter and I. From the time we arrived to the port until we were on the ship was less than 20 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We had the beverage package (non-alcoholic) and quite frequently when we went to fill our cups the machines were empty. There was one machine on the 6th floor in the Centrum, and four machines in the Windjammer (usually had selections, but not always available). There is only one coffe shop onboard (Starbucks). I'm not really a fan of Starbucks, but the Latte was drinkable. After the first day we had breakfast in the Windjammer as it was quicker (first breakfast in the MDR took over and hour from order to service). Dinner was always in the MDR. Overall the food was good at both locations. When we boarded, our Key lunch in the MDR was from Chops Grill - The food was amazing.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was always something to do. We did several of the trivia events, adult coloring and some others.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Broadway show was amazing and a must see if you can. There was one gentleman that juggled, did acrobatics and the thing with balancing plates on moving sticks. I was truely impressed. He was in his late 60's and the things he did were hard enough on their own, then the difficulty was increased as the ship was rocking pretty bad. The band on the Lido was very good. There was a Duo (Violin and guitar) in the Centrum. I could listen to her play the guitar all day, I was not vey impressed with the fiddle player.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our stateroom attendant (Medelyn) did a superb job. She was really nice and even greeted us by name when she saw us around the ship. Our MDR staff (Jay and Widi) went above and beyond. My daughter has some allergies and they worked with her to ensure she had good food and a great experience. They were always checking to make sure everything was to our liking and offered to bring something else if it was not.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The design is good, we only went up a floor going forward to avoid the casino. The ship was very well maintained for her age. Staff was always cleaning. Maintenance was very responsive when I called for a problem with the refrigerator.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were in balcony room 7546 on the starboard side about 1/3 of the way back. Far enough away from the front elevators and the Centrum to where there was no noise. Two decks below the Lido so we couldn't hear the music and noise unless we sat on the balcony. The room was nice with plenty of closet space and storage. The beds were firm, but not what I would call hard. The couch was a decent size and comfortable. The balcony was also a good size. We had two chairs and a table with a lot of room to strech out and move around.

Ship tip

This was supposed to be my 50th anniversary cruise, but since my wife passed I took my daughter and made it a memorial cruise. Don't let the bad reviews stop you from taking this ship. It may be a smaller ship, but there is still plenty to do. Because of the size, staff interact with you and become more like family.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Took the Ultimate Tour. When I first booked it was a train ride followed by a boat ride. Instead we got a very nice boat ride followed by a bus tour. We went to the French side and had 30 minutes to shop before the tour continued. Not much of a tour, they never even slowed down just pointed out things as we passed them (including McDonalds, Burger King and KFC). I was not impressed.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Labadee was very nice. We did the roller coaster, and almost did the zipline. We got all the way to the top, were hooked onto the cable, and when they called the landing zone they said the winds were to high for us to go. They brought us back down by truck and refunded our money. The rest of the day was just lunch and walking around. All of the unbrellas were closed due to the high winds.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
We did the botanical gardens with lunch. Some of the roads were dirt and extremely rough, but we had a great time and the food was excellent.

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

3 out of 5
Not much to do at this port. I did however manage to find a shop that made a fantastic cup of coffee.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
We went to Nevis for the day to see Hamilton House and some other sites. Had lunch and spent some time on the beach before taking the ferry back to St Kitts.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Getting off the ship was quick and easy. Since we had the key we went to the breakfast and then walked straight off when we were finished. The facial recognition system that Customs used in Miami made it even easier, we didn't even have to show our passports.

Thanks for sharing. Next time in St Maarten, I recommend Maho Beach, it’s an incredible sight to see the airplanes landing right over the beach.
