Review summary

This itinerary had us arriving back in the USA at Port Canaveral, not Baltimore. As such, everyone had to get off the ship there, all at one time, right in the middle of the cruise. Our deck disembarked first, between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. We had to sit in the cruise terminal until 9:15 a.m. We'll never book another cruise itinerary like this again. Getting up before 6:00 a.m. in the middle of a cruise and then sitting in a hard chair for 2+45 is not something we like on a vacation.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We arrived at the cruise terminal at 10:45 a.m. It took less than 15 minutes for us to exit our Lyft ride and be waiting for the Windjammer to open. This was an amazingly quick and efficient check-in process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The dinner menu was somewhat limited, with broccoli being the main vegetable offered every night. We ate breakfast in the MDR one morning: Omelets on the buffet were cold and and the eggs benedict I ordered off the menu was served cold. The Windjammer buffet seemed to have fewer choices than we've seen on other ships.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The production shows weren't up to the quality we've seen on other RCI ships. The headliners were comedians- Alfred and Seymour were outstanding, as always.

Children's Programs

We didn't travel with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff members were outstanding. They were very friendly and caring.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The design is what it is; can't change that. Everything appeared to be in working order and very clean. The only 'problem' we had was an odor of smoke originating in the Casino that seemed to permeate the Centrum. We couldn't participate in some of the entertainment activities there because of that odor.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This Junior Suite was in very good condition. We booked this cabin for the experience of cruising at the aft end of the ship. The balcony was twice the size of Junior Suites on the side of the ship. We were able to sit on our balcony without the wind bothering us-- which was nice in the cooler temperatures. The 'motion of the ocean' wasn't a problem, even in heavy seas.

Ship tip

Plan on using the staircases quite a bit. The elevators always seemed to be slow.

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

5 out of 5
Take a carriage ride... it's a great way to see more of the town quickly. We had lobster rolls at Munsons on Market Street. Just like eating them in Maine.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It took no time because we didn;t have to clear cusoms and immigration.

I didn’t mind doing customs at port c. We just left the ship after that and did our own thing. I didn’t think it was a hassle at all. It made getting off in Baltimore so quick. I liked it that way!

I was on this cruise, yes PC was our first American port on our way back. I agreed it was greatly inconvenient but thankfully we had plans and could leave after being processed we didn’t have to wait around. And lucky you our whole crew was down the first sea day due to seasickness.

The problem was they went to Nassau and cococay first. Then went to PC so that’s where customs comes in. Most of the time PC is first and Nassau and cococay is at the end of the cruise. Kind of what happens when key west is a stop.

Did the cruise end in port Canaveral or was that just your first stop after returning from a foreign port? We have been on Royal Caribbean where we stopped in key west after being in Cozumel before returning to Fort Lauderdale And they just had us go down to the theater to do a quick check with customs and then we could leave the ship or return to our room.
