It was fun if you are only there to sit around all day and take it easy. I wish the Centrum had been open, and I think our next cruise will be on a bigger ship with more activities and more people in their 20s and 30s
Embarkation
4 out of 5
We got incredibly lucky showing up (via Lyft) shortly after they opened the doors for a late embarkation. We heard from several others who waited to park for 1-2 hours before they even started going through security. Everything was chaotic due to the weather delay, and I was surprised the port wasn’t more prepared.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We really enjoyed the main dining room for all of our meals and went out of our way to eat there whenever possible. The Windjammer was always quite busy, but that’s to be expected. I thought I would enjoy Park Cafe more, but the selection was always very limited (nachos, pizza, and leftover bland dessert seemed to be the only late night options besides $ room service) and slow. We liked Cafe Latte-tudes, but they also tended to only have one person working at a time, so we didn’t bother if there was a long line.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We didn’t use too many of the onboard activities due to rough seas coming and going from Baltimore. We did enjoy the Solarium hot tub one day, and enjoyed walking around the track to people watch most days.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Most of the musicians were excellent, although the pool deck band is just too loud to hear yourself think. The band in the South Pacific lounge was amazing, and I only wish they would have had a bigger crowd if the Centrum was open and they were permitted to play there throughout the cruise. The first comedian (David Naster) was hilarious and we attended both of his performances. The second comedian (George Kanter) was a xenophobic bore. We saw his first set when it replaced the Farewell show, and were glad to use it as a warning to avoid his late night set.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff was amazing, especially our room stewards. The waiters were great as well and we were always able to get more of our favorites (lobster tail!) quickly.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It’s an old ship. The work in the Centrum was somewhat intrusive, because it meant that pathways were occasionally cut off, and even worse, it meant the entire “venue” was shut down until the last day. Otherwise, being small, it was nice to be able to figure out where everything was quickly, and we only felt cramped on the last day.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Small, but fine for two people. It was absolutely showing it’s age though. Most tables were chipped in many places, and the bathroom drawer fell completely off its hinges if you tried to pull it out. I liked the window view though.
Ship tip
Check out the piano player in Schooner bar! He had a wide range of songs and was a fun low key way to end the evening.
The weather caused us to return late, which is obviously no ones fault. However, it felt as if this was the first delayed disembarkation the crew had experienced. We had to leave our rooms by 8am to sit in the main dining room, but we didn’t arrive into port until after 10am. We were among the first off the ship, and still barely made it out by 11am. During the 2-3 hour waiting period, there were hardly any announcements or updates, and the announcements that were provided were not mic’ed. There also wasn’t any water or coffee, despite being in the dining room. When we were finally released, there was a mad rush to the exits, and no one from the crew even attempted to organize everyone.
