Review summary

Grandeur of the Seas is a mid-sized ship, not a floating city, and that’s why we like it. We have stayed in an “Owner’s Suite” three times on this ship because these cabins are spacious and beautiful. Our only complaint about the ports is that we arrived in the afternoon at two of the three ports and felt this was too late to take advantage of some of the offerings. We look forward to our next trip on the “Lady G” as she is called by the staff.

Embarkation

Streamlined and efficient

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Great food...not overly creative, but well prepared, enjoyable menu offerings

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Solarium (indoor pool area) is where we hang on sea days. It is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We attended an outstanding performance of Broadway musical selections. The performers were very professional and did a terrific job of entertaining us.

Children's Programs

I do not have children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our dining room waiters, Indra and Marianne, were very attentive. The head waiter, Nelvis, helped with an issue of some food not being warm enough. The Maitre’d, Savio, was kind and accommodating to our requests. Our cabin steward, Wilfred, was professional and proactive in handling a leak in our room. This was followed up by two members of the management crew and we were completely satisfied with RCCL’s care and concern for our inconvenience.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The Grandeur is an elegant ship; however, since this was our third cruise on this ship in 18 months, we did notice that some of the furniture in public areas appears tired. The side tables in the Solarium Pool appeared unclean and worn.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin is incredibly spacious and well appointed. There is PLENTY of storage for personal items. There are a few items in the cabin that are in need of refurbishment, such as the bathroom sink and shower faucet handles are large and round, and difficult to operate with soapy hands; the clothing closet door handles need to be replaced with handles that are more user-friendly. The closet doors were difficult to open.

Ship tip

The internet service, “VOOM,” is touted as the fastest internet on the sea, when in fact, it is the SLOWEST. Don’t expect reliable internet service or you will be frustrated and disappointed because it is fairly expensive at $20/day/device.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

5 out of 5
Great operation at the Port. Extremely well organized for entry and exit. Plenty of parking.

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Plenty of taxis to take you to Horseshoe Bay Beach. A group taxi is reasonably priced at $7 pp, each way. Horseshoe Bay is a beautiful, world famous beach. It has full facilities—bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, and rental of chairs and umbrellas as well as an informal, outdoor beach restaurant.

Nassau, Bahamas

2 out of 5
Not one of our favorite places. We did a “resort for the day” excursion to Beaches Resort where we paid about $200 for a beautiful beachfront on Cable Beach with lounges, umbrella, and lunch. Towels were also included. There are also two pools that were available to us.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
RCCL has done an outstanding job of developing their private island with a variety of water sports, a water park, an enormous pool, and two or three great restaurants. They also built their own pier so it is not necessary to tender in; the ships can pull right up to the pier.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Like the embarkation process, this was also managed very efficiently with convenience of the passengers in mind. The port staff were polite and welcoming upon our return to Baltimore.
