Grandeur of the Seas

9 Night Southeast Coast & Bahamas (Baltimore Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 02, 2018

Ship: Grandeur of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

Terrible experience, between lack of activities and the health concerns. It's been almost a week since we got home and my husband's and I still haven't completely recovered from the viruses onboard

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Delayed due to virus on board

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The Gatsby was probably the best as far as "complimentary" goes. The specialty was extremely over priced. The buffet was ridiculous, with limited hours and seating, most time was wandering around trying to find a table.

Great Gatsby Dining Room

4 out of 5

Stevan and Aleksandra were outstanding in their service, the best part of the cruise was visiting with them during dinner.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
The rock climbing wall hours were sporadic, but we did get to do that during the trip. The fitness center was under equipped for the amount of guests on-board and way too hot, who wants to exercise in room full of people sweating before they even start their workout?

Casino Royale

2 out of 5

Their were a select few machines that were modernized and fun to play. But the smoking section was just on the other side and wasn't filtered very well

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Limited show times scheduled during main dining hours so had to choose between dinner and entertainment

Children's Programs

No small children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waitress and assistant waiter was outstanding. Our steward was lacking since we had to request shampoo for our shower 2 days in a row and had found previous occupants trash in the drawers

Thanks! Is there a wait for a table? I'm thinking if you're not having the same waitstaff every night, I'd miss that. It's always fun when you get to know the waiters/waitresses. Thoughts??

Eat lunch or dinner what ever time you want without reservations. Basically that simple

Can someone explain mytime dining?

You apparently are not a cruise person. Also...you can not blame the ship for getting sick. It is cold a flu season and this happens on all cruise ships not just yours. People come on board already having the virus and spread it around. If you cruise again do more research on the ships so you pick the right ship for you.

We have always enjoyed our vacations on the Grandeur. Perhaps becoming sick had a negative impact on your experience.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Do you happen to remember who the cruise directer was?

I went on the grandeur in December and they announced same news about norovirus. Noone I knew got sick and We ALL had a wonderful time. Maybe you were expecting something that isnt abailabke on the ship. I would HIGHLY suggest my time dining. Only way to go

Cruising may not be the vacation for you. My wife and I have been cruising with Royal Caribbean for 14 years and haven't really had any negative experiences.
