Review summary

This was our worst cruise with Royal Caribbean, but we focused on the positive things and made the best of it. Overall, I do not think this particular cruise was worth the money spent.

Embarkation

Bags were checked at port-side without issue.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Very good, and in the dining room if you didn't like what you were served, they would bring you something else.

Onboard Activities

Service and Staff

Ever staff member was above comment - excellent.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This is our 3rd cruise on the Grandeur of the Seas. She's a good ol' ship, but starting to show sings of wear and some rust.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The cabin was gross. The pictures should speak for themselves, but we had to cover the sofa with a sheet because it was so filthy. This is not acceptable. We overheard another passenger arguing with staff about the chair in their room; they were told there is nothing that could be done. So, we saved our breath and just covered the sofa. The bed coverlet stain seemed more like a permanent one, so we just gritted our teeth on that one.

Ship tip

Wait for sales in the shops - all the prices were great then.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

Only used the port to board; we live locally.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We had a good experience here and enjoyed our excursion.

St. John's, Antigua

Had a great day at the beach, but our excursion was NOT good. The excursion group was horribly disorganized. We left almost 40 minutes late, and they boarded us in a van to go back almost 30 minutes early because they didn't know which passengers boarded from which ship. We did not get all of our time on the excursion. BUT the lunch was delicious and we enjoyed what little time we did have on the beach.

Castries, St. Lucia

4 out of 5
LOVED this. Our excursion was the best one we had and we enjoyed a beautiful visit at a private estate which was like heaven on earth.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

3 out of 5
We did not do an excursion here, but did enjoy shopping and lunch.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

This port was in NO WAY ready for tourists and should have been removed from the itinerary. We could have substituted another island or spent an extra day somewhere else. in addition, our excursion was cancelled because it was deemed to be unsafe to travel. We were not notified and waited in the rain for almost 20 minutes. I finally made a mobile call (expensive) and discovered it was canceled. I was refunded my money.

Disembarkation

Great - taking your own luggage is the way to go. Greeted by employees wearing Christmas hats was a plus

I was on the same cruise (Dec. 9). I had no problems and enjoyed the cruise very much. Grandeur may be old, but she is still a fine ship in my opinion. As far as the price, I went alone, had an inside cabin and got quite a bargain for a 12 day cruise. I'll be sailing on the Grandeur Aug. 30 and am looking forward to it.

Won’t sail on that ship again, lots of areas need to be fixed and renovated, royal shouldve taken care of this long before it got this bad
