Hawaii has always been on the bucket list to do and we were not disappointed by the sights and overall service provided by Princess cruise lines. We highly recommend the Grand or any Princess cruise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarking out of the port terminal in San Fransisco was a breeze. The staff and organization was perfect. We were able to get on board in under 30 min from the time we were able to enter the building to stepping foot about the Grand Princess.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Main dining room and cafe international in the piazza along with the buffet on Lido deck were always clean and offered ample choices for food and service. The crown grill was amazing and service was above expectation. We loved the One 5 bar for a drink pre dinner in the evenings
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Grand princess offered 3 main pools with 8 hot tubs for guests. Fitness centre was good except somewhat small. Lotus spa pool also had lots to offer. The Grand is expected to go into dry dock for major upgrades later this year as the old gal is seeing some age.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We were offered some on-board dance shows from Princess along with various musicians for everyone’s taste. The on board DJ was good and was limited to playing various sets in one5 club and during deck parties. Jumari was a very popular singer on board over the 15 day cruise and guests would look for a seat wherever he performed at least 45 min ahead of time. We also had a magician who was excellent and comedian Doug Funk was fantastic. The ventriloquist act was also quite funny and was packed in with guests.
Children's Programs
We did not bring children to this cruise. Very limited children on board this cruise to Hawaii
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Waiters were excellent throughout the ship and went above and beyond. Loved getting to know Cooper in Crooners piano bar. As well Meena and Gladys at the wheelhouse bar were exceptional too. The matre’d In boticelli MDR Constatntin was above expectation! All these folks and many more made our cruise a positive experience.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Currently Grand Princess is one of the older ladies to sail the seas to Hawaii, Mexico, and Alaska she is showing some age however, the amenities and presentation/ layout are great. Always impeccably clean as the staff are always working very hard inside and out to keep the ship in shape.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Size was somewhat smaller than we have had when comparing grand class ships such as Regal and Royal. However the room was always clean and tidy. The closets were somewhat cramped but did the job. It would be quite the challenge if more than 2 people were in the room. Our balcony size was just right. Tv’s were quite old and much smaller that at times had issues but we were not there the watch tv and did it’s job in a pinch
Ship tip
Don’t over anticipate any cruise. It’s your vacation, make the most of the time away and not nit pick at the little things.
We went to Waikiki beach where the Hilton Hawaiian village is located and had such a blast. Pure heaven and a great day overall. Think of a modern cosmopolitan city in the tropics. Loved it very much.
Another great island and friendly people. Lots to see and do on this island. Tip: each Hawaiian island has a free shuttle to a local Walmart lol. Great place to pick up souvenirs without paying the inflated prices at port side shops.
It’s Maui what can we say, it’s a beauty through and through. Local port has dozens and dozens of shops to peruse. All friendly. Please note local food and drinks are incredibly expensive. Example a beer and wine in most ports cost $30 US dollars.
Great shop directly at the port but that’s about it. Honestly if the mariner laws from 100 years ago. Ships sailing from US TO US PORTS must stop in a foreign port ie Ensenada Mexico. Would much prefer another day to visit another Hawaiian island. We only stayed 4 hours total to meet the mariner law.
San Fransisco cruise terminal port is well organized and modern. Fast and efficient to embark. Highly impressed as no one enjoys the day we have to leave a pleasant 15 day vacation to Hawaii
