Review summary

Never again...the main thing we wanted to see was the Glaciers. We got to Tracey arm and the captain came on and said there was too much ice and we turned around, not seeing anything.

Some people just gotta complain... The bloody ship isn't an ice breaker dude, adjust your expectations with reality.

onehardwre: any vacation can be subject to weather and nature. you shouldn't let that judge your cruising experience. heck I can plan a day at our local zoo and be rained out, you just find something else to do. I've been to Alaska twice, both times included a cruise. I can't wait to go back again ... and again.

I loved the Grand! I thought is was wonderful. Tracy Arm was beautiful, even in the fog and rain. I have a million pictures to prove it, ha! I always enjoy reading your posts and tips romantikcruiser, thanks!

For those who have booked your Alaskan cruise...while Hubbard is my favorite...Glacier Bay is also impressive...Tracy arm and Endicott aren't as impressive as glaciers go...but they are fantastic scenic viewing...the mountains and trees seem closer than at either Hubbard or Glacier Bay...the view reminds us of the wonders of nature...so any of these cruises will be a great experience...unless you decide to be unhappy...and I have known passengers who seem dedicated to finding flaws...the ship has been in nearly continuous use since 1998...and flaws are there if you spend the time and energy to search for them...seems a silly waste of time and $$$...but whatever "floats their boat"....I like the size and look of the Grand...I also love leaving without dealing with an airport...so for those unhappy folks...cruising might not be for everyone...also comparing Princess to the top end lines would be like comparing an excellent restaurant that charges $200 for dinner to The French Laundry which charges $1800 for dinner...for me...I will continue sailing through life one port at a time...and consider myself blessed that I can still do it and still appreciate it

Yes I have. I went to Hawaii in February on the Grand from San Francisco.

romantikcruiser    7 years ago

Yes frank we will be shipmates...have you cruised on the Grand before? Have you left out of the new pier

I'm going July 5-15. Are you going then too romantikcruiser?

ccrosscc    7 years ago

Lucky you!

romantikcruiser    7 years ago

I will be going in July 2018...was planning to take a European cruise...but when I saw that the Grand was going to Hubbard I figured that was my destination...also saved $$$ and do not have to deal with airports...a win all the way around

frankrober    7 years ago

You went in July or are going in July romantikcruiser?

romantikcruiser    7 years ago

Hubbard is an impressive Glacier. The cruise from San Francisco used to always visit Hubbard...but for the last few years you had to take a seven day cruise to see it...I booked the July cruise because they were visiting Hubbard...nor excited about swapping Haines for Skagway...but will accept that loss to see Hubbard. The only glacier I have seen that was more impressive than Hubbard was Mendenhall...you will not be disappointed...the Bay to Hubbard is large enough that the calving should not block the approach...the only time we were kept back from the glacier was when it was birthing season...but I do not see that as a problem in July. Bring video...you will want to capture the experience

When we go next year, we are going to Hubbards Glacier. Has anyone gone there?

did u see the movie titanic....just sayin

majmom96    7 years ago

Didn't you cruise glacier bay? Lots of glaciers in glacier bay. We went there in May and it was beautiful with lots of blue ice and calving.

ccrosscc    7 years ago

We were a little disappointed in Tracy Arm too. We thought it was glaciers calving. It was beautiful but not what we thought.
