Review summary

is a nightmare to book a cruise on, spend months arguing about payments and things that were supposed to be on our account but werent listed, it was easier with every other cruise to book directly through the cruise site. Everyhting was a 30 minute phone call, and if you dont get someone directly from the cruise section expect them to not know anything and tell you your reservation does not exist.

Our fist experience was a bust,

then when it comes to royal Caribbean, your food options after 11 are tiny sandwiches and not so good pizza.

Also we spent 4 days arguing about our  credit we got for booking and other credits that were supposed be there but weren't. Missed shows, missed dinners because we were either at the front desk or waiting in out room for someone to call us back at a designated time.

As for dining......we could only get reservestions for 730 ish every night and it takes about 2 hours to dine so this means we missed the 7pm show to eat dinner, we missed the 9pm because we were already at dinner and wouldnt make it on time OR we missed dinner to see a show. Those were pretty much our only options. we tried to make it to a show a little after 9 when we got out, but we could only stand in the back.

Didnt end up buying anything onboard, gift shop didnt have much of anything other than keychains and 8 different cups.

cabin i was happy about, a little bigger than norwegian

Ship tip

do not do mytime dining, either choose the lesser of 2 evils, to eat at 5pm set time or 8pm set time.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
easy embark and disembark

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

1 out of 5
too many rocks to swim, my only options to drink were soda, a cheap rum to mix with my soda or i have to spend $12 to buy the smallest frozen drink possible. They only offer a drink called the Labadoozey which was really good, but not worth what it was at all. Food they provided was taken away before we had the chance to eat it so we had to spend the last few hours on the island hungry. and as much as i wanted to i couldnt shop in their artisan market, the sellers are wayyyy too aggressive.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

been her multiple times, have done an at tour, a rainforrest tour and a few other tours. Skip to old san juan tour, theres really nothing them driving you around for 2 hours that you can accomplish on your own in 45 minutes. good shopping and food right out of the port

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

saint maarten is my favorite cant wait to go back for a 3rd time

Basseterre, St. Kitts

never went before this, did an island tour which was 2 hours of driving through slums. went to batik which was a cool experience, saw the black rocks which was great, was told we would go to the fort but had to pay $10 per person to go in. Didnt know that translated to " we will drive you up the road to the front, but you literally can not see anything fortwise unless you pay, cant even see what the for looks like from the outside.

Have not used ship mate app since the last cruise, royal caribbean contacted us directly immediatly after the cruise, offered us a lot of credit towards another cruise with them, so we are trying this line again but absolutely are doing things different to try and get a better trip from them. Booking directly through was 1000% better, . When I was asked to write this review in an email I thought it was related to the outside booking company which is why I went hard at them. I didn't know it was for shipmate. There were a lot of problems royal Caribbean had in-store for us, they misplaced hundreds of dollars in our room credit and claimed it was our fault for never applying them, even though we had all the info if them being applied in our phones. We were told they couldn't help us. It took hours and hours of calling home and other given numbers from Puerto rico, and the ship phones over multiple days having royal Caribbean fax the ship the proof that we already had on our phones. We were asked to meet with different people at different times that could " help us", so we had appointments to keep in the ship because " the cruise director was going to call our room between 1&2 " or " you need to come back here to meet with so and so, they get in at 6" or " we are going to make some calls please check back tomorrow after 4", the cruise director calling us personally to apologize for their mistake in day 6 was the end of the ordeal, we were happy he called personally. We spent days trying to figure out where hundred of dollars in gift cards went that were in our statements before we boarded, Our excursions were all Our in jeopardy because all the money we had received in gift cards for Christmas and birthdays were no longer there. Our special restaurant package was also lost And that took 2 days to set straight, and the head of the restaurants meeting us at our dinner to try and fix it, mind you these things were done right through royal Caribbean not a 3rd party And it's not that cruises are not my cup of tea, they're my favorite, but I never had such a negative experience in any other line. It left a bad taste in my mouth for Royal Caribbean. Hopefully is being extra careful and paranoid this time last off, but I'm definitely a Norwegian can .

Sounds like you booked through a travel site or travel agent. Which if that's the case on board perks provided by them should have clearly stated that they are not on your account until after 48-72 hours. Which is pretty standard across cruise line companies. Your agent should have also set your dining for when you requested and if you chose my time dining you could have logged into your cruise planner on Royal and made reservations months before to make reservations. Sounds like the travel agent let you down and if you booked through a travel site you didn't read all the clauses and do homework before sailing. Always take printed copies showing what your agent promised

Always book direct with the cruise line to avoid alot of those problems.

There's a cup for every saucer. Maybe cruises are NOT your cup of tea. Try a "land vacation" next time.
