Peaceful cruise with minor complaints. Would cruise again as I liked the laid back feel.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
First cruise back in the USA from overseas. Could have been the cause, but this was the longest embarkation I have experience in 3 cruise lines. We were in no rush, but did take a bit. Again, most likely due to customs.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We never tend to do the main dinning, so no review on that. Windjammer had cruise quality food and a decent assortment. Other lines tend to have other free items to choose outside of the main buffet. However, happy with the assortment. Main gripe is the fact that when you want a tea, water or juice product, they close fairly early. Only the bars or room service after 21:00ish.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Entertainment and activities were few compared to other lines I have been on. Was more happy with Royal than others, but if you want more parties and drunken frat parties, go to a different line. Game Room: prize dispensers were not operational and we had to go to guest services to inform them. Dream Raiders the fire triggers didn't work, one of The Fast and Furious games has a mostly dead screen where you only see blue colors and Operation Ghost the guns to play the game are not available. And a few other games were out of order. Worst game room I have encountered and wish I hadn't spent the money on prepaid credits.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Went to a few shows such as the headliner. The acting is subpar, even for a cruise. Left those two shows. Jason Magic was great and I recommend seeing on of his shows if he is still on. The Production and any other singing shows sounded awful, but the rest of the show was great.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Had better room staff that would greet us by name on other ships. Did his job though, so no complaints. Waiters for common areas are attentive and mostly nice. Ask one for OJ with no ice and he seemed to be annoyed by my request.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Clean ship and no complaints.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Air always seem damp/humid in the cabin. Toilet frequently took multiple tries for it to flush.
I was on the Explorer last year and ship was in good condition, food good, but service in MDR was dead slow. If you prepaid for game credits, and the games were not working, then you should have gone to guest services to either get games fixed or get refund due to broken game issue. Shows were good, but I guess it's a personal choice how a person enjoys the cruise to get the bang for buck, or just walk around miserable.
