Review summary

First impression was the ship looked tired but with the staff on board, food and drink it turned into a great cruise and we have booked the same ship again for September

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Excellent, from turning up in the car to sitting at the Tavern bar on board was 12 minutes, cannot fault.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate in the main dining room every night as we love the service, Michelle was our waiter assisted by Kalpesh, both brilliant.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I’ve only scored it 3 stars mainly because we don’t use these facilities and don’t look for them so cannot comment on them

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We have done a few Royal Caribbean cruises and found the entertainment always the same, rock Britannia same on all boats, please come up with something new. Also the showtime shows all geared round Frank Sinatra, rat pack, Ellis, nothing new so we never used again.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Found the Staff on the Explorer the best ever, all over the ship, windjammer, main dining room, bars and even the toilet attendants were all polite, friendly and always offered more than you asked for, our room attendant was perfect.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
All clean and you can see the cleaning Boeing done but the age of the ship is showing, but spotlessly clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a junior suite 9254 and was very disappointed with the balcony, it had down pipes and a sheet of metal obscured the view, not mentioned in brochure! Otherwise the cabin was large, clean and always kept tidy by our steward.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
Smooth embarkation and disembarkation

Oslo, Norway

3 out of 5
Possibly the wrong time to visit, straight after a Pride march, lots of barriers etc still up and rubbish laying around, although cleaning was in progress.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Tivoli gardens is well worth a visit, and the little mermaid

Great market in the port, lovely town

St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

Loved Russia, we visited the winter palace, amazing. Also went to a folk show in the evening, this was also great to see traditional dancing and singing. On day 2 we had a shopping trip and had lunch in the Singer building, excellent time in Russia

Tallinn, Estonia

5 out of 5
Medieval town, well worth a look around, a small train around the city walls is good.

Stockholm, Sweden

5 out of 5
It was a wet day so never went far but rated a 5 as the 4hour transit out was amazing, lovely views both sides, so many little islands, and the sun came out!

Skagen, Denmark

5 out of 5
Lovely small town, just enjoyed walking round and a coffee, friendly port to visit

Stavanger, Norway
