Review summary

We really enjoyed our first cruising experience, and getting our first glimpses of beautiful Alaska. The Explorer staff made us feel welcome, and as soon as we disembarked we missed their friendly greetings and smiles. We would definitely recommend this cruise, and if you go, I hope you get to see the stunning Dawes Glacier and the icebergs!

The embarkation went very smoothly for us. We arrived to the pier just before 11 a.m.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was good. Main dining room was very good quality. Appreciated the variety available in the cafe.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There are many options to help you stay active. We used the fitness room and the outside decks for walking and running. We also opted for the stairs vs. elevators for some extra leg work!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The Explorer's staff was very friendly and everyone greeted us with a smile and were ready to help. Our stateroom attendant was especially fantastic, always greeted us and asked how are day was going, and responded to our requests very quickly and it was so nice to come into a neat and tidied room twice a day!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This was our first cruise, so we do not have anything to compare it to. We thought it was very clean and it was helpful to have the interactive maps at the end of each staircase.

Ship tip

There are so many things to do, decide what you want out of your cruise and have fun! I highly recommend a stateroom with a balcony. We enjoyed just sitting out there watching the world go by... morning continental breakfast on the balcony is the best.

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
Overall, Juneau was very crowded/busy. Some shops were closed (Sunday). We enjoyed a beer at the Devil Club's Brewery, the tasting/tour at the Alaskan Brewing Co., and a short hike at the top of the Mt. Roberts Tramway.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Loved this town! We did day hikes from the town, including the Gold Rush Cemetary, Reid Falls (from the cemetary), Yakutania Point, and Smugglers' Cove. The views were beautiful, even with the clouds. The downtown was clean and tidy, and loved the boardwalk sidewalks. Bites on Broadway had delicious snacks (cheddar biscuit and salmon chowder), Skagway Brewery had great food, and Klondike Brewing Co. was a great place to end the day with a cold beer.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Can't wait to return here for a weekend to explore more. We highly recommend the PediCab Tour. We learned a lot about the history of Victoria, and our guide, Heloise, made it such a fun and interesting adventure. Very clean town and everyone was friendly.
