Review summary

Once again Royal Caribbean does not disappoint. The crew on this ship was exceptional. The entertainment was fun and the performers talented. I typically cruise to the Caribbean and totally enjoyed this departure from my norm. The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area of our country with so many wonderful and interesting places to visit. The weather was absolutely beautiful. I’ll definitely be returning.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Windjammer was good, as always. The dining room was exceptional! Great steaks and seafood. The last night was Italian and the lasagna was definitely a cut above any I’ve had anywhere.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The spa was wonderful! I had a great massage by a knowledgeable and talented person. Two of my friends also had massages and their experience was the same.

Entertainment

The majority of the shows we attended were excellent. The orchestra was exceptional and the RC singers and dancers were exceptional.

Children's Programs

I did not have children with me.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Eligio, was unbelievable! He greeted us by name after the first day, remembered our preferences for items in our cabin and anticipated our every need. He was truly a friendly, personable professional! Our dining room experience was superb. Our head waiter, Syarif and assistant waiter, Yandi were exceptional! After the first night we were greeted by name with our preferred drinks waiting at our seat. Both were friendly and attentive while remaining professional. They made every dinner enjoyable.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean, and easy to navigate. Common areas were a pleasant, comfortable place to stop, have a snack or drink and visit with friends.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our cabin was very comfortable and the size was fine even with three of us in there. The beds were very comfortable! The cabin was clean and Eligio made sure it stayed that way throughout our cruise. The cabin did, however need some minor repairs and sprucing up. Some of the drawers and cabinet doors were either sticking or falling off their hinges. The carpet was a bit worn.

Ship tip

The casino was a disappointment. It was small and the ventilation did not handle the smoke from cigarettes. In addition, there was a bank of about 8 slot machines that “appeared” to be paying very well for the entire length of the cruise. The people who were playing them totally monopolized them at all times. When one was finished playing, he/she would be replaced by a friend or relative who might or might not want to play. Sometimes they would just “hold” the machine until their friend returned. It was noticed by a majority of travelers and was a frustrating situation.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

This was my first visit and I enjoyed going up into the Space Needle. We also went on the Ride the Ducks excursion. I totally enjoyed it! It was very interesting and informative. From there we went to Pike Place Market. We didn’t have enough time in Seattle to visit all the places I wanted to see.

Astoria, Oregon

We went on an excursion to Seaside and Cannon Beach. Seaside was a little touristy, but Cannon Beach was delightful! A warm and friendly community with wonderful shops and restaurants. I’d love to go back and spend more time there.

San Francisco, California

Again, my first trip there and we didn’t have have nearly enough time. We took the Alcatraz tour which was awesome! It was very well narrated and was so interesting! We also went on the SunsetCruise which was a wonderful tour which ended at the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. Beautiful! We also tried the Hop On, Hop Off bus tour. If you are unfamiliar with the city I wouldn’t recommend this tour. When we got off the bus to visit a place you would have to figure out exactly where it was and then after walking to it you would have to figure out where the closest bus stop was to continue the tour. The bus stops are not marked and the map was only marginally helpful. The result is a lot of walking taking up a lot of time and not many places visited. Chinatown was a bit underwhelming for me. Next time I would take Uber to the special places of interest to me.

Victoria, British Columbia

Beautiful place. We went on the horse drawn trolley tour. Very informative and Hannah was delightful! Later we went into town on our own to shop and have lunch. I can’t believe we didn’t see Butchart Gardens! Another place I want to revisit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We took advantage of the Royal Caribbean program where you place your luggage outside of your cabin the night before disembarkation and don’t have to deal with it again until you claim it at your final destination airport. It’s wonderful and makes disembarking a snap. You simply walk off the ship when you’re ready.
