A total waste of time and money. The entire purpose of the trip was so my companion could see 5 different ports in Hawaii, since she had never been to the islands. The 17 day cruise was suppose to stop at 5 different ports. Due to weather, we could only stop at 2 and the weather wasn't the best on those days. We were only able to lay in the sun on deck one day. Thank god we got out early between 1000-1200, because by 1500 it was cloudy, windy, and raining. I realize the weather is unpredictable, however the promised itinerary wasn't remotely fulfilled. Holland America only offered $100 per person credit off of "certain purchases" on ship and a 15% discount for a future cruise purchase. We did not purchase the internet package, however we heard people complaining profusely over the terrible connection and the cost of the package. One person said she had to upgrade to the daily rate of $29.95 in order to check her email. The is the premium service which should also include streaming.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very orderly and smooth.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Lido buffet was very good serving much of the same food as the other restaurants. At times it could be crowded but it was our "go to" place to eat. Main dining room was average due to slow service most of the time. The food was very good and the attendants were very nice. I did not use any specialty restaurants.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Excellent. The fitness room was used almost every day and very nice. We couldn't use the pickleball court because the entire cruise was too windy.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Every form of entertainment was first class.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Overall, the entire ship staff and crew were great.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Very clean and well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin 6108 was very nice; a Signature Suite. For a 17 day "cruise from hell" due to the weather, it was great having the extra space for the time at sea.
Ship tip
Perfect size ship that provides the comforts for most travellers.
"Just OK." Did a shore excursion to the Volcanoes National Park & then to the Orchid Garden Farm. The Volcanoes Park was great and the Orchid Farm was fair.
It wasn't raining, maybe it should get 5 stars, except that damn near every Mexican mama had their damn kid coming up to you begging for money. No excursion, we just walked around town. The vendors are very aggressive.
Can’t blame the ship or the line for the weather, been on two of those and we just changed our expectations. Sounds like you had normal shipboard internet, not worth paying for unless you have a pressing need. Looking forward to boarding for Alaska in 148 days.
