Enchantment of the Seas

7 Night Southeast Coast & Bahamas (Baltimore Roundtrip)

Sail date: December 16, 2022

Ship: Enchantment of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Review summary

This was the first cruise we brought our young son on, and he loved it. However, we adults were less enthused, mostly due to awful weather the last 2 days. The Enchantment does not handle 11 foot seas well, and for the first time ever, we wanted the cruise to end early. The ship itself is showing signs of age, but it’s still well maintained. We were told by multiple crew that this voyage was overbooked, and it definitely felt full. LOTS of families with kids aboard likely due to the timing before Christmas. For our next trip with our son, we’ll likely opt for one with more variety in activities, even though this port offers the convenience factor.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Good food with fairly good variety. We weren’t blown away by any meal, but we weren’t unhappy either. We ate all dinners in the MDR and all others in Windjammer. The rough seas made for a very challenging experience in the Windjammer since it’s in the front and top of the ship.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The outside venues were all closed for the last 2 days due to weather, which meant there wasn’t a whole lot to do. A full ship then became pretty cramped.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The shows were good except for the juggling act. Their sense of humor was not my kind of thing, and they only did 4 or 5 actual juggling acts in 45 minutes.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
We used this twice for our son and were happy with the program. Thankfully he was unaffected by the rough seas because this was on the top deck. My only complaint is that they only accept the first 15 kids per age group to arrive, and our voyage was announced to have over 700 kids aboard. Not a great ratio.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room attendant was fantastic! MDR staff were great and timely as well. Our son had a semi-scary accident aboard, and the medical staff were extremely good at diagnosing the injury and caring for him. They checked in on him after the fact and made us feel much more calm than we otherwise would’ve been.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is showing its age, but the cleanliness is good. The only complaint here is the layout of the ship. Feels very disjointed in spots with the placement of the lounges. The biggest flaw is that you can’t get to the theater on deck 5 from the Centrum without going through the casino. They don’t allow kids to go through the casino according to the signs posted, but people walked through with them anyway because it’s the only convenient way to get to the theater.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Small interior room & had a pull-down bed. Not a bad room, but certainly shows signs of age, especially the bathroom. Down the hall there was a constant sewage smell which wasn’t great every time we walked into the hallway corridor. Room attendant was great! Remembered our son’s name from Day 1 and always checked in on us. There was a surprising amount of storage as well!

Ports of call

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

3 out of 5
It’s better than Nassau, but it’s still not a destination we prefer. We went to a beach club and it was very crowded and loud. We ordered chicken fingers at their grill shack and it took 45 mins to get. It was a fine enough beach and we had a good time regardless of the things mentioned above.

Port Canaveral, Florida

Baltimore, Maryland

The port is kind of a dumpy place, honestly. But convenient to get to.
