Review summary

My husband and I really enjoyed this cruise. We are in our early 70's, and I do most of my moving about in a scooter. This ship is the perfect size for us. The smaller size allows you to get to know both the crew and the other passengers. This 12 night itinerary gave us 6 sea days to just relax, although there were plenty of daily activities. I would definitely sail on this ship again.

Embarkation

Very quick and easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I enjoyed the food everywhere. I found the food everywhere to be tasty. The filet mignon in Chops could almost be cut with a fork. Really enjoyed the chicken parmesan and lasagna in MDR. I could have made a meal out of just the raisin bread in the Windjammer at breakfast.

Park Cafe

5 out of 5

Frequently had a line, but yummy pizza.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
This ship is an older, smaller ship and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer, bigger ships.

Photo Gallery and Shop

5 out of 5

Very, very helpful staff. Because I had a large photo package (booked precruise...100 photos well worth the expense of $140 since an oboard package for 10 photos was $150). The manager knew me by name).

Entertainment

5 out of 5
No Broadway shows like the new, big ships, but the entertainment staff was very talented...some truly amazing voices among their singers. I didn't see all the evening shows, but what I saw was very good. The evening activities in the Centrum are definitely not to be missed... Dancing with the Stripes and the 70's dance party had me in tears with laughter.

Children's Programs

I didn't travel with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff members on this ship seemed to want to go above and beyond to help you out. A girl at our table had celiac disease and truly could not have gluten and our waiter made sure to point out food options for her, brought her gluten free bread and the chef even prepared desserts not shown on the menu. Everyone was super friendly and had a ready smile and a hello

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship is not for everyone. It is older and smaller than most of Royal's ships. But because of this it was also easy to find where you were going without always looking at a ship deck plan. The crew were constantly working, cleaning and painting the ship. Will you see some spots of rust here and there? Yes. After all there's only so much you can do at a dock as opposed to drydock-- although you'd be surprised how long the extensions on their paint rollers can reach! Housecleaning staff, especially Noreen on deck 6 of the Centrum area were cleaning constantly.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a handicapped accessible cabin and had plenty of room for my scooter and rollator without feeling crowded. It has the normal 2 twin beds which we had put together, a loveseat and small table, a chest of drawers and an end table with drawers. It has the usual vanity...no drawers, and shelves. Also a small fridge.

Ship tip

Watch the website for sales and book Chops Grille on deck 6 for lunch on embarkation day. You can avoid the Windjammer crowd and have a delicious lunch in a beautiful peaceful setting. Or you can also pick up some sandwiches and snacks st Cafe Lattetudes, also on deck 6.

I did a non ship sponsored excursion. I was not impressed with what we saw and it was very inaccessible.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Beautiful island. I would definitely visit here again. Because of my disabilities my husband and I booked a private tour through Pelican Island Tours...Great guide and very reasonably priced. By having the private tour we could move at my pace.

Castries, St. Lucia

We didn't do a tour, just tried to walk (for me scooter) around the area outside the port. Traffic is horrible..4 way blinking red lights that none of the cars stop for. Just crossing the street is a nightmare and finding a consistent accessible path is almost impossible. At one point I had to ride my scooter in the street. There is a market in a building not far from the port with typical and not so typical souvenir items.

Bridgetown, Barbados

We only stayed in the port area shops. They did have some interesting things.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

This was another pretty island. My husband and I booked a driver at the port for a couple hours to see the island. The port area shops were very pretty.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Aside from having to wait 45 minutes past our disembarkation time it went smoothly and quickly. Apparently some of the early groups all decided to go to the Centrum at the same time, causing a bottle neck. Once that group cleared out, things went smoothly.
