Review summary

I became very sick the first day aboard the ship, about 8:30 pm. The medical staff treated me well and I was isolated (understandably) due to the nature of the sickness. Around noon the 2nd day guest services called and ask how I was doing, I answered not so good. The person speaking did not speak good English. What she wanted to know was whether I still had diarrhea and vomiting, which I did not. She interpreted my response as that I was still sick . On the morning of our excursion in Cozumel, the nurse called, asked a precise question and got a precise answer. She cleared me to leave the ship. We stood in line for 45 minutes to get off the ship. My wife checked out, they stopped me and said I had to go to medical. We missed our excursion. Needless to say it was because of vague questions from someone who spoke poor english from guest services. I was kept in isolation another 4 hrs. Never again Royal Caribbean. Oh, and by the way we were charged for things that our Credit for booking should have covered, and good luck trying to get through to anyone to clear up any problems you may have.

For our first cruise, things went well

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Certainly not worth the money paid for the cruise. (Windjammer) Evening meal was good. The way the exit for cozumel was handled was a complete failure. Very poor planning. It would be nice if staff understood english better, the front desk, due to a very poor question regarding health caused us to miss our excursion.

Ship tip

If you get an onboard credit, they will show it is being used to pay for gratuities, then when you get off the ship you will be billed for what was shown as paid.

Missed our excursion due to the way a medical situation was handled. This was our first cruise ever ................. and probably our last, definitely our last with Royal Caribbean.

I've had issues with my bookings with RC but they have always been more than accommodating to make things right. I'm paying for my southern Caribbean cruise in Feb using discounts and credits I recieved for poor service. Sounds like maybe the problem isnt RC but rather your response to what you felt was bad service. You get more bees with honey than vinegar.

Definitely agree cruising isn’t for you. We’ve been on 10 cruises, many with RC snd loved them all. Was it from something on the ship that caused your wife’s illness or was she getting sick prior to the cruise. If it was something she ate a lot more people would have been sick also.

Aww man. This is sad to hear. Most people say their first cruise is the best because everything is new to the. I wish it had went better. Royal Caribbean is one of my favorites and I hope you at least try a different cruise line. There are lots of great ships. Also you should kniw each ship is different. So sometimes you can have an awesome cruise and then a bad cruise on different ships within the same cruisline. Hope your feeling better and also remember they are extremely careful with the types of symptoms that you had because they can spread very easily.

Sounds like cruising isn’t for you. We’ve always had an excellent experience on Royal Caribbean.
