Not the worst cruise, but also not the best. The ship was small and old. The amenities showed. The plus was it wasn’t crowded.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Not bad, the wait was not long. They had a lot of chairs to sit on so that was good.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food was ok, not the very best. No crab legs or lobster night unless you wanted to pay the up charge. The buffet was not very good and had the same food every day. The dining room was good. They tried to keep people drunk with their beverage packages.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The ship’s activity director, an English lady was annoying. Just the sound of her voice made you want to jump overboard. A lot of stupid activities like the men’s belly flop or the sexiest man contest. Truly if they would have had something like that for women they would have been sued. Time to give that crap up. The activities for kids were lame at best. The shows and comedians were good and the reason for the two stars. Art auction and jewelry for sale was totally stupid. They have rock climbing wall but it was seldom open. Never saw people in the fitness center.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Good shows and comedians. Didn’t go to the adult version. The band on deck 9 and deck 4 were pretty good for most songs.
Children's Programs
1 out of 5
Poor poor poor. None of the video games worked. The kids didn’t want to be there.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff were great. Great waiters and room stewards. Without them the cruise would have been a flop.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Ship was old but very clean. Rust in several places but other than that well cared for.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
Small clean cabin with a great cabin steward. No mini fridge or lotions or shampoo. Big negative. Just a dispenser on the wall of the shower for liquid soap. Only two towels. Bed was hard, more like a cot. A/C worked well.
Ship tip
Don’t expect a lot and it will be a wonderful cruise.
Your cruise history shows sailings only on premium lines and then you expect better from a mass market line like RC, on one of its oldest ships nearing retirement.
Your review is a bit sketchy....you’re complaining not having crowds?! If you sailed on a newer larger ship your complaint would be “too many people”. As far as crabs...only seen crab legs on Carnival (Seafood Shack) and their is an upcharge. On shorter cruises their is an upcharge for lobster(RC and Carnival). The activities you mentioned (belly flop) are popular on cruises which is why they keep hosting them. Maybe a resort vacation may suit you.
Short cruises don't have lobster. That is normally served on the 2nd formal night on 7 night or longer cruises. I've never seen crab legs on a Royal ship. Most of your other complaints are about activities that most people enjoy, that's why the continue to have them.
Maybe we have been spoiled because my last cruise we on ly had hand soap, shower gel and shampoo,,things are changing, but the different lines offers are different !
