Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffet foods are just that, buffet quality. The apple pie with ice cream was probably the best desert I’ve had on a ship. The drinks were amazing. Cesar or Cezar in the spotlight lounge was incredible and fast. Donning experience had good service but the food overall felt flat. One night the menu got a bit exotic for my taste and made me venture else where. Overall I feel royal needs to upgrade is this department. Carnival is one step ahead with their taco place and guys burger.

Onboard Activities

Pools were decent but crowded. Liked how royal has more pools than carnival so it’s not body on body. I also loved the adult area with the pool. You can swim and relax in a nice quiet area. Never felt crowded. But this is the end of the positive. Cruise ships need to develop a way for there entertainment to feel natural. Karaoke was literally the place to be. It was packed every night and you had customers screaming one more hour but we were all disappointed because we were turned down. I hate how cruises force a schedule on these types of things. If something is popular why not find a venue that is cleared to allow people to continue to enjoy the entertainment. The comedians were literally the same ones from the last two cruises.

Entertainment

Roy in karaoke was the highlight. Royal needs more people like him. As I said Karaoke was the place to be and people were enjoying it. Roy continued past the time and got yelled at in front of everyone. I wanted to ask for a manager but I feel it probably would have ended unwell. ROY/ KARAOKE made an old ship fun. Hell even the staff started dancing and were feeding off the crowd. I’m highly disappointed with Royal this go around otherwise. Bobby was great but it’s all the same shows and games as the other ships. Definitely need to freshen it up and make the shows feel more natural

Children's Programs

I don’t have kids, but other than pools and some movies there just didn’t seem to be a lot like the other ships have to offer.

Service and Staff

Waiters were good. Roy and Cesar had to be my favorite by far. They took care of their guest as it should feel. They didn’t seem like they were brainwashed to serve you. They had genuine conversations. I didn’t talk to every server or personnel but overall it wasn’t bad but I feel I’ve had better on other ships. One thing that upset me a little was one of our guest in the party got hurt and had to go medical. He was cornered and questioned like he was being interrogated. He was required to give a statement.

Ship Quality

Ship is in desperate need of some love on the outside. I’m embarrassed to even put this in my review but we believe we also found a bed bug in our room. The morning we were to exit the ship I found a small bug and snapped a picture as a just in case because I’ve never seen a bed bug. Once off the ship approximately an hour or two I developed a rash. I contacted royal and they made us feel at fault and asked why we had contacted anyone sooner? IVE NEVER HAD BED BUGS AND I HAVENT SEEN ONE, SO WHY THE HELL WOULD I IMMEDIATELY ASSUME ITS A BED BUG.. I understand it can come from anywhere and this stuff happens but come on Royal

Ship tip

Don’t let this ship discourage you from royal. It’s one of their oldest

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

If your looking for beaches go elsewhere. The Mayan ruins and cenotes are closer then other ports. I feel costa maya would be a better stop that progreso

Disembarkation

Terribly planned. They had us standing on a wet deck all for us to walk into the elevator area with slippery tile. It was by far my worst experience exiting a ship.
