Review summary

Overall this was a great cruise on a brand new ship. We had been looking forward to getting back to sailing for quite some time. There were on 1797 passengers, so there were no lines to speak of. Even getting to the show just a few minutes before showtime, there were seats available. Most everyone followed the masking guidelines and the crew "gently" reminded you if you forgot your mask. They even carried extras. As Princess ramps back up, I do hope that some more of the nightly "group' activities return.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was a breeze with the Medallions. Make sure you have filled out all of your information on the app before you get there and embarkation is EASY. We were onboard within minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I would love to give this 5 stars, but I am afraid I can't. The new My Way Dining still needs some improvement. Apparently when you make a reservation prior to boarding, the "system" randomly assigns you a table. Suffice it to say, our party of 4 had some issues. The food and service were what you have come to expect from Princess, however our experience in the Crown Grill was a bit disappointing. The Filet was almost inedible it was so tough and the service was a bit lacking that evening. We will try again on our next Princess cruise and hope things have improved.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The fitness center is really nice and they have plenty of ellipticals and treadmills, as well as free weights and circuit machines. Mask were still required when lifting weights, but no masks while doing cardio. We enjoyed the Destination talks because they gave a little history instead of the "shopping" talks I am used to seeing. Also, make sure you go to hear Dan's (the cruise director) talk on like on board the ship. Really interesting and there is time for Q&A.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainers at night were great! I think we had the most unusual entertainer I have ever seen on a cruise. Who else has seen a juggler/whip snapping/musician that sets himself on fire! The nightly activities were still ramping up, so there was not a lot of dancing at night, and the music venues were mostly empty. Our favorite band was on board though, the Zinger Trio.

Children's Programs

We did not travel with kids, and I am not sure there were any on board.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward was great! I think she was a ghost because every time we left the cabin, we came back to find it clean! All of the other ship personnel, wait staff, bartenders, and Customer Service people were friendly and helpful. We did have some service challenges in the Crown Grill, but we tried to overlook it as much as we could. After all, we all have bad days.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Of course the ship was beautifully maintained and still had the "new ship" smell. I believe we may have been the first ones in our cabin. The layout is much the same as the Regal Princess, with the big quirk being getting to the Amalfi Dining room. You have to go up a deck and back and then back down. The other strange thing I heard (since I am not a smoker), is that in the Churchill Cigar Lounge, you can't smoke cigars! How bizarre.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was clean as a whistle and plenty spacious. We brought too many clothes (as usual) but there was still plenty of storage. The view from the balcony was very good with no obstructions. The only observation is that the balconies seem to be a bit smaller.

Ship tip

Make dinner reservations early for the entire trip if you can, and check with the MaitreD when you get on board if you have a preference in tables. They have very limited access to change things for some reason. Tip 2 - Don't sweat the small stuff!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

If you have the beverage package, it is good for the bars on the island. Make sure you check your account though because they sometimes do have issues with the technology.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Many of the shops on the main street did not make it through Covid. There are still plenty of Jewelry stores! If you can walk them, find the 99 steps for a nice view of the bay.

Roseau, Dominica

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation went good, and they only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was we were ready to get off earlier than our assigned time, but we couldn't. Probably our fault more than Princess.
