Review summary

This was our first cruise on RC. Empress is the smallest and oldest ship in the fleet, so it can only get better from here, right?!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
All the bags were left pelmel in the hallway and we had to search for them.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Because the ship is small there is not much room for food. The food was mediocre and not much variety.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the hot tub

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Outstanding entertainment!! Professional dancers and singers, a comedian and a great juggler.

Children's Programs

Did not bring children

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Overall, the service was good. The housekeeping staff was great. The dining room staff seemed a little overwhelmed.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The rooms are small and it's clearly an old design. It was clean and maintained as well as possible.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Small with a smaller bathroom. We had an ocean view and the window was a decent size.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
Had the best grits ever at the Ocean Grill. Walked through the shops and enjoyed the chickens and iguanas.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
Lots to do at the port.

Belize City, Belize

5 out of 5
A lot of great shopping opportunities here for native goods.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Rented a jeep and drove around the island. Stopped at a free beach that was beautiful and had some local dining and shopping available. Speedometer on jeep did not work.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was easy!

Small is a relative term. Yes small by today's standards for sure but she is about same gross tonnage as Titanic which was once considered huge. We like smaller ship. Less to board and smaller crowds in ports. I also think they give you more personalized service too.
