Empress of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 26, 2020

Ship: Empress of the Seas

Cabin type: Oceanview

Cabin number: 3536

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Review summary

Ship lacked amenities. Royal Caribbean has declined in quality dramatically over the last few years. Likely will go with another line in the future. Paid for an Oceanview cabin which had a tiny dirty porthole which added nothing to the experience

Embarkation

Quick but we were there early

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Service for the most was good. They need more personnel in the dining room. Food was really lackluster.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward was fantastic Fnu was his name. Customer service was not very helpful. Waiters were good just need more of them.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Design was ok except for TINY cabin. Many areas had sewer smell.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Urine smell when we got there. Room was tiny. Could not comfortably move around. Closets almost too small to use. Bed was awful. Back still hurting.

I wouldn't disregard RCL because of this. You chose the smallest and oldest ship. Empress was my first cruise ever and I loved it. But I don't love crowds and I don't need all the bells and whistles.

There's a difference in ships with every cruise line

We did a cruise on Anthem of the Seas end of September and enjoyed so much. The ship was beautiful and so much to do.

I would not judge an entire cruise line based on cruising on one of their smallest oldest ships. We love the smaller ships, but don’t need an amusement or water park and constant entertainment to enjoy ourselves. If that is what you are looking for, book one of the Oasis Class ships.
