Review summary

The cruise was nothing special, as expected. The ship is very small comparing to the mega ships, the food was very disappointing. Cuba is my favorite port, better than our Europe, Asia, Alaska, New England cruises. Those other ports are too commercial and mostly tourist traps selling tourist junks. Cuba is still a innocent city in it's purity, in time with more tourist going to Cuba it too will change for the worst, go now before it changes. If you go please consider bringing old clothes, toiletry and other basic stuffs for donation, some people had bring spark plugs, pens...(search on Google for what they need). We love Cuba and wish we knew about bringing donations to help these nice people.

Very long line for a small ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The food was the most disappointing part of the trip, almost every meal was bare minimal in quality and imagination. We are heading to the tropics and all they serve was watermelon, apple, bananas and pineapples, where are the mangos or papayas etc. such boring fruits. We are headed to Cuba and we had Italian and Indian theme nights, what about something Cuban or latin America? I admit they did have oxtail and black beans with rice one night and it was amazing, the rest was very basic and un-imaginative.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I guess since this is the small ship in RC's fleet there are as many Onboard Activities as other ships.

Entertainment

The last show with world champion couples dancing from Italy was Broadway quality!

Ship Quality

Ship is a little old, built June 1990.

Cabin / Stateroom

The Empress of the Sea is the smallest ship in the fleet because any larger ships wouldn't fit into Havana's small port. Because of the small and older ship, the rooms are the smallest we ever been in. But it's OK the Cuba visit was amazing and made up for the small room size.

Ship tip

It's small ship so it's very easy to get from one end to the other.

Time stand still for Cuba, what a amazing city and charming people. So few tourist shops and traps. If you go please consider bringing old clothes, toiletry and other basic stuffs for donation, some people had bring spark plugs, pens...(search on Google for what they need). We love Cuba and wish we knew about bringing donations.
