Review summary

First time cruisers who were a bit naive/scared of things going wrong, so spent far more than we needed to but hey you only live once, right?

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Getting on board was quick and easy, but the battery on our cabin door had gone and it took two or three hours to fix

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was great but the drinks package was extortionate so stick to paying as you go. Not sure why the “smokers” bar had to close at 9pm when all others were open till late

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Two of four pools are for adults only which can be great, the spa is a rip off

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The comedians were good, the band ok but the stage shows were rather amateurish

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our steward and regular waiters were great, other staff including those in the dining rooms just did their roles around us paying little attention to anyone

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Can be confusing knowing which lifts go to which locations, maybe a map on the back of each room door would help. Several lifts out of order at various stages of the cruise (one for the entire 14 days) and not all lifts in the same lobby operate on the same circuit

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Premium balcony was a waste, hardly used it. Unless you’re into room service breakfast don’t bother. The rest of the room was great including the bed. Upgrading the showers to include a door rather than a curtain should be looked at

Ship tip

They will absolutely rip you off if given the chance, it’s not like you don’t pay enough to be there already

Ports of call

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5
This is where we boarded the ship, we spent a few days here before joining the cruise, enabled us to see the sights after the hoards from the cruises had returned to their respective ships

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
Picture postcard location, the duty free is cheap as

Kotor, Montenegro

5 out of 5
Most surprising amazing place you’ve never heard anything about, another picture postcard

Messina, Sicily

3 out of 5
Nothing much to see here unless you visit the volcano (which we didn’t), some old churches on the bus tour but they’re everywhere in Europe

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
We chose the Amalfi coast excursion, unfortunately by bus this takes forever given the tight coastal roads. Beautiful location and well worth the visit, but as you’ve also got Pompeii and Portofino as options from Napoli could probably do with two days here rather than one

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Lots to see and do, thankfully we had lots of time

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Easy as

If I have the choice to purchase something, or not, and I chose to buy it, I don’t consider it getting ripped off. It’s a personal decision such as the many, many people who love the drink package (we don’t, but many do) and think it’s worth every penny. I’m glad you had a (mostly) great cruise and your next cruise will be even better! Cheers!
