Review summary

All in all a nice cruise. As far as food and activities, emerald cannot compare to its sister ship, Ruby Princess. One other thing, the internet connections sucks. We purchased unlimited internet package for the whole trip and paid a bundle for that. There were several days we can’t load anything at all. A waste of money.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food is good. A lot of choices.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Love the zumba, ballroom dance, line dance and Hula dance. Too bad ballroom dance instructor left after five days so the rest of the cruise there’s no more classes. Zumba was a five star.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were so-so except the few production shows. Show time of 7:45pm and 9:45pm were not good. 7:45pm shows were packed. 9:45pm shows were too late.

Children's Programs

No children

Service and Staff

Ports of call

Honolulu, Oahu

Too bad we arrived at this port on a Sunday. The Hertz rental near port was not open, neither was Polynesian culture center. Hanauma Bay was heavenly.

Nawiliwili, Kauai

Did not join excursion. Rented a car and drove around the island. There are shuttles that take you to the car rental place to pick up the car.

Lahaina, Maui

4 out of 5
Tender port. We joined the Maui Ocean Center excursion. Was not bad.

Hilo, Hawaii

4 out of 5
We rented a car and drove to the scenic drive and Carlsmith Beach. Carlsmith beach was very beautiful. You can swim with the sea turtles there.

Ensenada, Mexico Did not visit port

Been to this port many many times. Did not get off the ship.

Disembarkation

No problems with the port or the cruise line. The problem we had was with super shuttle. We reserved and paid for a van. When we got to the port, we had to wait just like every one else. After 40 minutes, a van for us was there except the driver was upset that he wouldn’t make money driving us (not sure what that’s about) and was rude.

We loved the Emerald but haven't been on the Ruby yet.

Been on the emerald twice and loved it, can’t wait until February to try out the ruby. Thanks for the review.

So the Ruby was better in terms of food and activities? We’re going on the Ruby in May
