Review summary

Alaska is a must visit place and am so happy we cruised there. We celebrated our 25th anniversary with Disney (and our adult daughter) and it was the best decision ever. This was one of our bucket list places to visit and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I would travel back to Alaska anytime. Thank you Disney and all the great crew and people we met. One of our best vacations.

Embarkation

Getting on and of the Disney Wonder was a much better experience than other cruise ships I've been on. Some almost had fights from people trying to cut line to get on/off ship on other cruises. Disney made it so easy and fast. I wish all experiences embarking/debarking were like that. We had booked some excursions outside of Disney because they were full and we thought we would have trouble (based on other cruise line experiences) getting to them but it wasn't an issue.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The dining experience was much better than other ships (Carnival/Norwegian) that we have on. Disney does it right and the food at Palos (that you pay a small fee for) was amazing! Love the wine package that Disney offers and the drink of the day specials. Their draft beer selection was great, not all places carried all the beers but they would get you the beer you wanted from the other places if they didn't serve it. The dole whip was amazing and can be found at the smoothie shack.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Had a great time but would have liked more adult games. Make sure you join in for the various activities on the cruise so you can interact with the cruise staff and other guest, It's what you make of it. We did a Single Malt tasting which lasted an hour and we were impressed with what we learned and of the scotch we tasted. Worth the $25 for the event and highly recommend it. Disney could give out some better prizes, such as collector pins, travel mugs/glasses, or a tkt for a free drink of the day, not just key chains and luggage tags. That is the only thing that I think is lacking on the Disney cruise, more adult games in the evenings and some better variety of prizes.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Broadway quality productions. The shows have never disappointed us and they were wonderful.

Children's Programs

Our child is an adult now and travelled with us so we did not use childrens program.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff overall were amazing. They went above and beyond to make us happy. If we ordered a beer that wasn't served in that area they would go to another area and get it for us. They offered to do so without a problem. Our dining staff were wonderful and can't say enough about them, making us feel welcome and special.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Disney has the cleanest ships I've ever experienced. Always see them being cleaned or varnished and making sure people clean their hands before eating.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had an inside state room, the bed was so comfortable and room was spacious, much better than other ships we have been on. We had a lot of stuff with us since this was an Alaskan cruise and had more clothing than normal for the various weather. Even though there is not much closet space, we were able to accommodate 3 adults for a week easily.

Ship tip

Join in the activities and get to know the staff. We had a lot of fun doing the adult activities and the Pub is a great place to hang and play cards or games. They have lots of board games in the pub and great way to relax if not on deck.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Loved the area and city sights. Hotels were excellent.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

First time for Disney to stop at this port and it was a great little place to visit. Must have is the $15 bloody Mary with a crab leg in it and shrimp. One of the best ever. We did not do an excursion here but saw many doing the zip line one and it looked fun. We enjoyed the scenery and walking around the shops and walking trails.

Skagway, Alaska

Highly recommend taking the bus ride to the Yukon, the views are spectacular and on the top 10 list of scenic highways. We did not do the train although many people did (bus one way take train back, but is an option). We had the driver to ourselves on way back to ship. He made stops for us and we had a more personal experience.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the canoe to glacier excursion but Disney was booked full. We did it outside of Disney and ended up canoeing with the Disney people and had our own bus to/from ship so ended up being great and much more personnel with learning about Juneau from our native bus driver. We were worried about booking outside of cruise line but our excursions were great and no issues getting to them or back to ship in time.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
Did a fishing trip for Halibut and Salmon. Fishing guide was great but we didn't catch a lot until the end. They had a lot of rain the night before and didn't make for great fishing day but we had fun and caught enough to send back home in the end. It was just the 3 of us and our guide so it was a great excursion.

Disembarkation

Disney knows how to get people on and off the ship better than anyone, in my opinion. No issues, quick and easy.
