Review summary

Disney has some of the best customer service that we have ever experienced and that is why we keep returning. Their prices are higher but if you plan ahead, cruise in the non high peak times and take advantage of their future cruise discount you can get some good deals. They have beautiful ships and amazing crews!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
This was our first time cruising out of Miami (we usually sail out of Port Canaveral). We had a port arrival time of 11:00am. The longest line that we had was going through security and that wasn’t even bad. We literally walked right up to the check in desk and were assigned Group 4. It was freezing inside the terminal though!!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had the first dining rotation at 5:45 each night. We are just not late eaters. This was our first time sharing a table with another family(we are a family of 6 and they have always just put us at our own table). On this cruise, our oldest could not join us so,they put two families of 5 together. It was a great experience! Our servers were Franklin and Juan and they were just simply amazing. The food was fine but this was our 8th Disney cruise so the menu is pretty much the same every cruise, lol. Our family always likes Cabanas for breakfast and the food did not disappoint. I love Disney’s muesli for breakfast!!!!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Disney offers a great range of activities but we only attended the trivia and the movies. Love having a movie theatre at sea. We watched Star Wars, Coco and Thor. Trivia is fun but sadly there was always one person there (the SAME person) who won every single trivia that she went to. She even made the comment that she wins every Disney trivia game she goes to (apparently she cruises very much on Disney and she was currently on a B2B) and collects the prize medallions and puts them on her mantle at home. That’s all good but I saw quite a few families who would have loved to win for their kiddos to be excited! My children are older and we just love Trivia so it really was no big deal for us, I just thought it a little selfish of her. The ship has tons of character meet and greets as well as characters roaming the ship. The shows have been absolutely great. In the past but we did not go to any on this cruise. I like the pools better on the Magic and Wonder than the Dream. They are bigger.

Entertainment

Did not attend any shows.

Children's Programs

My children are older and did not use the children’s program.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service was unbelievable! We had the best room attendant and she kept our room so clean! Our dining room servers were just amazing!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I love the layout of this ship. The ship is in great shape and the crew is always out working on her or cleaning her. The carpet in the main areas has some staining but will be repaired in dry dock. It did not affect my cruise one bit.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was kept very clean! We had two connecting cabins with the college age children and high school child in one and my husband and myself in the other. You can open the balcony separator to make one big balcony. You have a separate bathroom for the shower and the toilet. This room was in a great location. 3 flights up for the gym, spa and Cabanas buffet. 2 flights down for the shops and theatre.

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

We booked City View trolley on our own. We booked it ahead of time and saved $5. You can walk off the ship and buy tickets though. Nice hop on hop off bus tour with padded seats. It was very chilly the day we were there’s and they had the roll up vinyl windows that were very much appreciated. We visited Hemingway’s House and really enjoyed our visit. Please note that Hemingway’s a house accepts CASH ONLY!

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Nassau isn’t our favorite port. We walked over the Queens Staircase which was very pretty and then walked to Junkanoo Beach which wasn’t that impressive. We then just got back on the ship.

Castaway Cay (Disney Private Island)

5 out of 5
Our family just loves this island. We always rent the bikes and ride on the bike path. It was too cold to snorkel so we just laid out and got a tan.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We did express walk off. We were in line by 7:00am and we were supposed to walk off by 7:15 but we were not cleared for a while. I lost track of time but we were in our car and driving home at 8:20am. It was super easy.

@shay1920 - I like the smaller ships more but my husband likes the bigger ships more. The Wonder and Magic are not always departing from Florida. The Dream does 3 and 4 day cruises and the Fantasy does 7 day cruises. You might want to do a few days at the parks and then a 3 or 4 day cruise to decide if you like it. You would have a great time no matter which ship you chose. Just remember to book your next cruise while on board to partake in one of the only discounts that Disney Cruise Line offers (10% off a future cruise and reduced deposit).

I completely agree! All 5 of my cruises have been on the Magic. We love it! My mom has sailed on its sister ship, Wonder, on the Panama Canal itinerary. I’m sailing on Dream in July but in talking to guests who have sailed on multiple Disney ships, they prefer the smaller ships and nearly everyone leans toward the Magic... but all loved their Disney Cruise experiences.

Since you've been on so many Disney cruises, which ship would you suggest? My daughter and I are huge Disney fans. We normally take our yearly family vacation to Disney World. I was thinking of doing the cruise instead next year.

I've been on both the Magic and the Dream. I totally agree with your review, they are the best at sea! Looking forward to sailing on the Dream again soon.
