Review summary

DCL definitely has some amazing aspects on their ship. The DCL app is amazing, the ship's design was beautiful, and the rooms were amazing. But for the price paid, it wasn't enough to wow me. The attitude of our waiter, disappearing act of our room steward, and food quality overshadowed what could have been a great experience. Our kids preferred the Disney parks over DCL and enjoy other cruise lines more (at half the price of DCL). I may try DCL again in the future because I don't like to completely judge an entire fleet on one bad experience.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation was a mess. It was extremely crowded, the wait time was about 45 mins to an hour. At least they provide you with some entertainment while you wait. There were TVs playing Disney shorts, photo opportunities with characters, and a replica ship to see.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I heard so many great things about DCL and was really excited to try it. I was underwhelmed by the food. For breakfast, the pancakes were dry, the eggs were runny, and there weren't many options for people who don't eat pork. The idea for a rotating dinner venue was nice, but the food quality was still okay. One good thing is you don't have to pay for a soda package with DCL. Soda is included.

Service and Staff

Our waiter in the dining room was very impatient and not very personable. Our assistant waiter was great though. I only saw the room steward once the entire cruise. Most other staff we ran across were friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The room was the most magical thing on the ship. Very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. There were two bathroom areas which was very convenient; one area had a toilet and sink while the other area had a shower/tub combo and sink. The balcony area was clean and loved sitting out there.

Ship tip

The ship is huge and difficult to fully explore on a short cruise. I would recommend booking a ship like this for a longer itinerary (7 nights or longer)

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
I rated Nassau a 5 because of the particular excursion we did. I've been to Nassau many times and wanted a different experience other than a beach, Atlantis, or glass bottom boat tour. My family booked an excursion with the Graycliff Chocolatier Factory. We toured the factory, received interesting information and facts about the chocolate making process, then were escorted to a room where we were able to make our own chocolate bars, chocolate candies, and chocolate lollipops. They provided the chocolate, the fillings, and the molds. The entire family, from the seniors to the kids, loved this excursion.

Wow, some people like the cruise and other dont. It like a lot of things. If you pay that type of money you should have the best of everything. And Disney is not what is cracked up to be.

We've done 5 Disney cruises and about to do our 6th and Disney is higher priced than most cruises. Your paying for the name and service on Disney cruises. They also have 3 new ships coming soon and the prices of the cruises have gone up just like the theme park.

Sailed on Disney 3x’s (Dream, Magic and Wonder). Loved all 3 cruises! My daughter can’t wait to go again. Do agree though it is pricey

Thanks for the tip. Disney is way overpriced!

So sorry to hear you had a not so great experience. We’ve sailed on the Dream 4 times and loved it. It is tough when you pay more for DCL and they didn’t deliver or wow you. Great review.

Best review I've seen. I felt the same way and did not choose to invest in another Disney cruise.
