Review summary

Decent cruise for the money but would choose a different cruise line the next time. Great cabin and cabin attendant. Main dining was a total disappointment. Many crew members seemed to be unhappy or very tired. Ship's common areas were all too crowded or too small for the activities planned in them for the exception of the Princess Theater.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy drop off of luggage quick through security and registration process to get on ship fast.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining was a total disappointment because of very slow service, unhappy staff, and mediocre food. We would recommend avoiding main dining altogether. Specialty dining was some of the BEST we have ever had on any cruise line, but with it comes the added cost. Gigi's pizza, Slice, and the Salty Dog's food was also surprisingly very good and no additional cost for them. The World Market Buffet was average to poor as the staff was very quick to clean tables but very slow to get drink re-fills and silverware when needed. It was very crowded and hard to find tables at times. It was not marked well for where to find different food items (salad, main courses, meats, etc.) and it seemed the employees were overworked and unhappy.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
All were very crowded. It was difficult to get seats near any of the pools because of the excessive reserving of chairs. Staff needs to enforce the "no reserving seats" policy that is printed in several areas. Our ship was near to full capacity and it was difficult to find seating at many of the activities we went to. Some shows and games had a PG-16 rating but many children under that age were present and taking up seats. Princess Live was a GREAT venue but too small for many of the activities scheduled there. Staff was needed (and none seemed to be around for any crowd control) to keep people from standing in front of seated guests and clogging up the walkway to move between venues, bars, and places to eat.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All of the headliner shows in the Princess Theater were very good! We enjoyed every one of them and seating was never an issue if you could arrive 25-30 minutes early.

Children's Programs

Didn't have children with us.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Our cabin steward Santano, was the best we have ever had on any cruise line. The wait staff in the specialty restaurants were also very good. Outside of those two venues, service was poor to mediocre. Staff seemed tired and overworked. Service to order drinks was non-existent and we would just end up going to one of the bars to avoid the 25 - 40 minute wait.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It was a new ship and it showed. Very nicely appointed and very clean. Common areas were too small for the ship being at full capacity. It always seemed very crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Best cabin we have had on any cruise line and the best part of the trip. Plenty of room, very clean, and very comfortable. Our cabin attendant Santano, showed us all of the benefits of the Princess Premium packaged and how to order food and drinks. He was an AWESOME ambassador for Princess Cruise Lines.

Ship tip

Don't waste your time using the Main Dining option. Spend a little and do specialty dining or use other food options.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Clean, nice people and quick boarding.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Not enough time in this port to really do anything. Aggressive vendors after arriving at the port. Tendering is a painfully slow process.

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Lots of options and easy walking.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved this port!!! - lots to do and nice options close to the dock. Easy walking for shopping and even a Wal-Mart across the street from the ship, if you needed a few things.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy and fast. No complaints.
