Review summary

Diamond Princess is a unique experience with passengers from all over the world. This is our third cruise on the Diamond Princess and we love experiencing Japan on this ship. She’s a class lady, well maintained for her age, and the itineraries are excellent. The food and service is very good. The Japanese aspects like Kai Sushi and Izumi Spa makes it very interesting feel!

Especially enjoyed Kai Sushi. Sushi chef Tsuyoshi was phenomenal. John and Nami made us feel special. They made our cruise!

Cabin / Stateroom

Twin beds cannot be moved to create queen bed. Accessible type bathroom. Larger than normal balcony with direct view of ships wake even though it’s not a stern cabin. Some slight vibration felt from engines. Cleanliness was not an issue. Not mini suite, but had two televisions .

Ship tip

If you like all the latest bells and whistles, this isn’t your ship. If you like vintage design with a distinct Japanese feel, you’ll love Diamond Princess.

Ports of call

Yokohama (Tokyo), Japan

One of Japan best port cities. Great food and shopping. Also, just a short 30 minute train ride to center Tokyo.

TOBA, JAPAN

You have to take tender from ship at this port. People were so friendly and helpful. Pearl Island just a short walk from we’re you are dropped off by the tender and we enjoyed the pearl diving museum and demonstration divers on the island. Show your cruise card for a discount.

Osaka, Japan

Took the train to Kyoto. This took about an hour and a half, but we were in port till 9:00 p.m. so we had plenty of time. I would probably recommend taking a shore excursion unless you are somewhat experienced with Japan’s trains. Kyoto was beautiful.

Loved my time on the Diamond in Japan. It is a more traditional seafarer and ideal for those of us who don't want to zip-line, rock-wall or bungee. The Japanese cuisine is great. Glad you enjoyed it.
