Crown Princess

16 Night Hawaiian Islands (San Francisco Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 09, 2024

Ship: Crown Princess

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 8 months ago

Review summary

Repetitive food in the buffet. Repetitive entertainment. Food was lacking taste in buffet. Lack of excursion options for people with mobility difficulties. Staff was great! Have another raise booked for 2026 but I will probably cancel and use different cruise line. This was our 2nd time on Crown and things just weren't as good as the first time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Same food day after day in the buffet and very bland. For good food we ate at the specialty restaurants when possible.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Trivia day after day, multiple times a day gets old. Entertainment was better 4 years ago. Couple production shows were okay.

Ship Quality

Time for a new ship! Toilet problems, leaking roof, sewage smell at times, ship is rusty.

Cabin / Stateroom

B748. Great cabin but alot of movement.

Ship tip

If you are younger than 65 this may not be the cruise line for you.

Ports of call

Honolulu, Oahu

Polynesian Cultural Center was nice but I expected a bit more. If you have kids and are younger than 65yr it may be nice for you.

Ensenada, Mexico

La bufadora blow hole. Poor and dirty country! Vendors in your face pushing you to buy their items. Blow hole was ok but nothing spectacular. Stay on ship.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Whale watching. Saw a few tail flops and a baby breach but was overall disappointed we didn't see more whales and breaches.

San Francisco, California

Did not venture away from our hotel.

Nawiliwili, Kauai

Helicopter tour of the canyon and Napali coast was out of this world. Jack Harter helicopter tour was AMAZING!!

Hilo, Hawaii

Disembarkation

Took a long time to disembark. We had to be out of our cabin at 8:30am and had to meet in a crowded Crown Grill. We waited an hour and a half to get off the ship.

I guess some people can't enjoy a cruise no matter how great it is. I was on the Crown Princess just over a year ago and had a great time and food was great as well. Only some dishes are repeated on the buffet, so maybe you need to look harder. I've been cruising with Princess for over 8 years now, and the daily entertainment is just about the same then as it is now. I'm thinking you let a negative situation that happened on one of the first few days bother you too much and you let it set the precedent for the rest of the cruise.

Sorry this cruise was not up to par.

The Crown is an older ship. You should try one of the newer Royal class ships like the Discovery or Enchanted.
