Carnival has been bleeding cash since COVID, so I understand that Princess had to make some cuts. Princess bags are not being given out anymore, chocolate on pillows is gone, and the food menu might have suffered a little, but if you're a stockholder, then you'll understand.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
If you followed the checklist on the Medallion App, then you'd have no problem boarding quickly.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food court was crowded but convenient. There was variety for everyone's taste. Seating was not a problem between inside and outside.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
There were plenty of activities, but I went there to relax.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The comedian was good, and there was a singer named Jan Jan who was good, but there were a few nights where it wasn't worth going.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff were extremely polite, professional, and hard-working. Great job!
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship was clean and well designed, but it does need some upgrades. Some elevators were inop at times.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was clean, and the steward did a great job in keeping it clean.
Ship tip
Use the stairs whenever you can to help burn a few calories. The casino machines are not worth the gamble. The odds aren't as good as most any other casino. Go to the shows at least 15 minutes before the start.
We spent 2 days there and had a good time. Retired veterans can get a great deal with a Luau at the Hale Koa for about $100. Stay away from the Hop-on Hop-off. It's a big waste of money.
We decided to rent a car to see the sights on our own. We had free admittance to Volcanoes NP, and we saw things we would have been able to see with a tour. Choose a rental that picks you up at the docks. We used Budget and got a full sized sedan for about $100.
Thank you for sharing! We were on this sailing!
In Hilo we made the mistake of renting a car that did not provide a shuttle pick up at the port. We ordered an Uber to and from the airport car rental. The shuttle was charging $5 per person. So this was cheaper for us!
I understand your feelings about some of the changes Princess had to make. It does sound like you had a wonderful time though & that is wonderful to hear. I also Loved Hawaii myself Happy Sailings!
I was just on the Crown in Feb and had no issues with ship, food or any other area. I have enough of the blue Princess bags to last 2 lifetimes, and I really don't miss chocolates on the pillow. If had to bring my own soap and toilet paper, then I would have a reason to complain, but until that happens, I just enjoy my cruise, have a great time, and I dont worry about useless take aways that had no bearing on my decision to cruise that ship or cruise line
