Review summary

We chose this cruise for it's itinerary. St Kitts was our main reason, but the other stops were also excellent! As stated earlier, the ship is older and about ready for an upgrade, but he ships layout was excellent, and the service was overall exceptional on this voyage.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth and efficient. The staff encountered upon arrival to the cruise terminal were friendly as was the welcome staff on the Crown Princess. The room was ready earlier than usual, and that was a plus.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All facets of the vessel's dining options were excellent. The drink options at the restaurants and bars were very good. Service onboard the ship was above average.

Vines Wine Bar

5 out of 5

We like visiting the Vines Bar. The wine selection is a bit better and the glasses used are more appropriate for the wines. We also attended the Silverado Wine Blending event there, which was a unique experience. Service in the Vines was exceptional. Only negative comment is that we prefer the wines to be served at cellar temperatures.

Sabatini's Italian Trattoria

5 out of 5

Sabatini's is our Go To for alternative dining on Princess. We love Italian, and the food and service offered is almost always perfect. This was no exception.

Dining Room

5 out of 5

We had excellent service in the dining room. Very friendly waiter and assistant waiter. The food served for the most part was excellent as well. We prefer dining in the dining room when we can.

Skywalkers Nightclub

5 out of 5

We like going to the Skywalkers Nightclub on the aft of the ship during the less busier times for it's wake view and relaxing atmosphere!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Since the cruise was in the month of December, for part of the cruise the weather was a bit cooler. Most pools were not heated, so the water temperature at times was too cool to utilize. The pool areas were nicely done though, and close to bars and food options. The fitness center was nice and we should have visited there more often. We liked the casino.

Gatsby's Casino

5 out of 5

We were frequent visitors to the Casino. We liked the setup of the slot machines and the room around them. Some Casino's onboard have too little room. This one was an exception. A nice variety of machines for a ship of it's size, and some of the bar staff remembered what we like to drink and our names as well. A special touch. The Casino hosts were also very friendly.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows offered on the Crown Princess were excellent!

Princess Theater

5 out of 5

Nearly every show we attended in the Princess theater on the Crown Princess was excellent! The theater on the ship was also well set up!

Children's Programs

We were not traveling with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service on the Crown Princess was exceptional for the most part. I did fill out some positive review cards on the ship. There were no negative comments. Noting special recognition were our waiter and assistant waiter in the dining room, the waiter at Sabbatini's, and our stateroom attendant, Jaime Hernandez.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Crown Princess was well designed and well kept for an older vessel. Some aspects were ready for an upgrade, which I believe was planned.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We have done everything from an inside cabin to a suite, and for this particular cruise, the cabin we chose was very appropriate. We liked the location.

Ship tip

The Crown Princess is a nicely designed ship. Although it is an older vessel, it is well maintained. An upgrade would improve the ship, and I believe it is scheduled for one.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
We prefer cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale over Miami. We like to stay there prior to a cruise for a couple of nights. We did not do a ships excursion. We have friends in the area.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
We like St Kitts. We have stayed there before. The people are friendly, and the island is beautiful. We know someone there so we did a private tour. We like that the ship was in port there for a full day until 11pm!

St. John's, Antigua

5 out of 5
We had never been to this island before. We chose a ships excursion that took us on a catamaran for snorkeling, a beach visit, lunch and open bar. It was great!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
Actually, we spent little time in St Thomas; only for a light shopping stop. We did although take a ship's excursion to St John, were we took a guided tour of the island. The driver was awesome, and very knowledgable. St John had suffered extensive damage from two category 5 hurricanes and was still without power other than generators. We were the first tour visitors since the devastation, and were welcomed with smiling faces. It is still a beautiful island!

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
We only visited the ships port at the Margaritaville area, which was very nice. As a ships excursion we rented a private cabana by the pool there, which was very nice! It was even air conditioned, and we had bar service delivered to our cabana. It was unfortunate that we did not get to see any more of the island as we had never been there. I understand they too suffered damage from the hurricanes, but it was not evident at La Margaritta.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was also smooth and efficient. Not as quick as embarkation, as the waiting time to disembark is lengthly as usual.
