Ports of call

Basseterre, St. Kitts

We chose a snorkeling and catamaran ride on this island. It was done by locals and they did not speak or understand good English or good customer service. The boat was clean and the ride might have been a bit too long as we were all anxious to get in the water. It was not a reef but just the coast line with big rocks but we still saw plenty. Unfortunately those who had not snorkeled before got no instruction or help.
Don't Miss: snorkeling

Bonaire, Netherlands Special Municipality

All of the excursions I wanted were filled months before the cruise left and so we were hoping to get there and rent scooters or snorkeling gear and just be our own guide. Unfortunately it was the Queens birthday and every place was CLOSED. So there were thousands of cruisers wondering around the dock. We talked to locals and they said the party was in Renton so we got a cab to take us there for $25.00. It was a street party with people who were making all kinds of food, what I have no idea what it was as we could not read the signs, could not tell what the food was and no one spoke English OR took American money. So we wondered up and down the street and saw the dancers, singers and costumes. Then we sat at the bus stop and got a ride back for $5.00. So it was back to the ship for us. This island was very clean and we would have liked to done more but who would have looked up national holidays in the Netherlands?????
Don't Miss: snorkeling

St. George's, Grenada

: We did not sign up for an excursion as there was none I liked. So we went to town. It was bad. We tried the fish market but nothing there. The street vendors were poor and the goods were not edible. They were selling spices and salt. We were cautioned about purchasing it and did not. So it was back to the ship for us. We do not want to come back here.
Don't Miss: do not go

Oranjestad, Aruba

This was on our bucket list and I have to say we were not disappointed. We had not signed up for an excursion but upon hearing that after the Queens birthday is labor day, another national holiday, we decided we needed to do something. So we signed up for De Palm Island. It was wonderful. On this island is unbelieving snorkeling, snuba diving and scuba diving. There are three restaurants and all the food and drinks are included in the tour price. There are lawn chairs, hammocks, umbrellas, tables, chairs, showers, everything you need for a perfect day at the beach. They actually have stairs going into the water to snorkel and once you are in there are HUNDREDS of fish and so much area to look around. We would snorkel, eat, snorkel, eat and snorkel again. We could have started there till the sun set. Shopping in town was limited to street vendors but it was priced
Don't Miss: de palm island

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We went ashore and did an excursion on the dancing dolphin. These guys were professionals and made sure everyone had a good time. We snorkel and saw many sea animals when we went to turtle cove. I would recommend it.
Don't Miss: dancing dolpin tour

Pros: Service-- movie under the stars

Cons: room was a little too warm
