Review summary

The itinerary for stops was good, unfortunately to short of time in each port. Messina shuts down in the afternoon when we arrived so unless you booked a shore excursion you basically had nothing to do or see. Each port was about 4 hours which didn't allow for much other than a quick excursion. Mykona's is beautiful and coming into port at 6:00pm at least the shops were open and the people there were very friendly. The service on the ship was good, food was not exceptional but definitely a good variety/quality. Something new for us on a cruise ship if you ate in the dining room for breakfast, lunch or dinner they did not have water at the table. If you wanted water you had to buy a bottle which had about 3 glasses of water in it for 5 Euro. They did have a good variety of excursion and I would definitely recommend taking them in Athens, Messina, Santorini and Izmir mainly due to where you dock and time in port. The excursions we took were good. I want to go back on a cruise in Europe but will pick a different cruise line next time to compare. The weather was great, a little warm some days when hiking around so you needed to be prepared with some water and comfortable clothes were a must.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
You need to buy water and coffee was not offered at lunch or dinner

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The entertainment was terrible, very poor quality. The activities would have been more fun if they would have realized they did have english speaking participants.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
They did have an english speaking concierge but he wasn't exactly helpful, plus a bit arrogant.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

We had an owners suite

Ports of call

Izmir, Turkey

3 out of 5
I would recommend the excursion to Ephesus offered by the ship
Don't Miss: Ceramic shop in Ephesus a stop with the tour

Santorini, Greece

3 out of 5
Don't Miss: We did the 4 X 4 jeep tour we loved it but if you don't like skinny roads and steep drop offs on the side this is not the tour for you .

Mykonos, Greece

5 out of 5
We paid the $6 euro to be bused to the city and I would recommend that as it was worth it, the ship offered this. The shops and restaurant areas are great. To bad you arrive at night because there is a nice beach in town you could sit at .
Don't Miss: The shops are amazing, recommend buying the 100% olive soap

Messina, Sicily

1 out of 5
If you did not take an excursion, you had nothing to do because the town shuts down all afternoon during the time you were in port.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

1 out of 5
The ship needs to inform passengers that you need to take a tour to get to Athens. You can take a taxi to go see places in Athens but you are taking a chance that you will get back in time to get on the ship. We didn't take a tour and ended up staying in Piraeus which didn't have much to offer.
Don't Miss: Take a ship sponsered tour to Athens

Pros: Mykono's was a great stop

Cons: Do not travel on a European cruise with an Italian owned ship during July, August and September this is high season for Italians to travel 1425 Italians 75 english speaking passengers

Recommends Costa neoRomantica? No.
