Enjoyable cruise. by pollyhgreene

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Overall the cruise did what we wanted it to do. We had a short time for our vacation and the 3 day cruise allowed us to see/do different things than what we could have done if we had been \"land locked\" for the entire time we were in the area.

Bad experience by Aaaaaaaaa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

1. Food was bad 2. Spa was bad 3. The dates were bad, 2 of 4 stops had all stores closed because of Easter holiday. 4. No one could tell how to connect to the airport till we got off the ship. Not take this cruise again and won't recommend to anyone

NEVER AGAIN WITH COSTA by pdtaylor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Transatlantic

After several Costa cruises we chose Costa Mediterranea, 28.02.13 to 28.03.2013, Miami (Florida) to Savona (Italy) … Caribbean / Transatlantic Costa has clearly changed its business model and is trying to reduce operational costs to pay for the "Costa Concordia" disaster. This is being done at the expense of passengers by reducing services in all departments both on and off the ship. A Costa cruise no longer offers quality. Cabins still not made up until the afternoon and not properly cleaned, a dirty balcony, even complaints about toilets overflowing on lower decks. Reduced services in bars and restaurants with less service staff available, a low quality of food served in the main restaurant and reduced selections in the buffet restaurant (in the evenings no buffet, only Pizza). The quality of services now being offered by Costa has reached a totally unacceptable low level. Even restaurant and bar managers are apologizing to passengers for the low standards and reduced quality of services and stating that passengers are now paying for Concordia. This has been our most disappointing cruise experience ever, our "trust" in Costa has been totally disturbed, there can no longer be customer loyalty, and Costa has made our decision for us … "NEVER AGAIN WITH COSTA".

10 days of european dining and service on Costa by 4Familycruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Let me start by saying the cruise was great. Cabin service was excellent, entertainment for both children and adults was very good. The captain himself spent time taking children's questions in the kids club. Our 7 year old was very happy with 3 pools and big slide. Our 2 year old had great time both on the slide and in the kiddy pool. My wife and I enjoyed the european food, with a lot of variety at dinner in the main dining room. The portion size is european (smaller), but you can order two of each or different if you wanted. We NEVER went away hungry. My only complaint about dining overall is that in between main food service (breakfast, lunch and dinner) the only place serving food was pizza bar. We had checked the reviews before we cruised and were a little concerned about some poor reviews given to Costa. We have been on many cruises on many different cruise lines and found Costa to be a very enjoyable cruise with service more in the european style (very good but more reserved than we as americans are used to). We would definitely cruise Costa again.

Wonderful European/Caribbean experience by decoyact

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean

I have read other reviews that were critical of the food etc. but I think you have to realize that once you board this ship you are in effect transporting to Europe to take a Caribbean cruise. Any minor adjustments we made were well worth the entire cultural experience. We were way outnumbered by Europeans and were able to rub elbows with people from all over the world and learn about them. They were interested in us too and seem to know very little except for what the media and the TV tell them. There were several pools that were not always crammed with people. I never had the opportunity to swim on the boat because I was busy doing other things. The game rooms were quite popular, comfortable and attractive. The ship is in good repair, beds were comfortable and dcor nice. Advice is to brush up on European theatrical history and the humanities to really appreciate the dcor. Although partying is encouraged, this is no party barge. It is much deeper than that. All of the ports were fantastic but we were unable to do the excursions. We did go in and hire our own drivers at each port and had a blast! Grand Turk is probably the most beautiful place I have seen. Honduras was the most interesting. We asked our driver, Jose Omar, to take us out of the touristy area and to the regular town. It was a wonderful experience to see how the people really live. We ate at an open air caf in the middle of town where the food was exquisite. Advice is to brush up on your Spanish before going. We went to some of the mountain markets. There was a man at one of them selling paintings that I really wanted to buy but had run out of money by that time.

The Worst Boat and Crew on the 7 seas. by bluediver

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

AWFUL. That sums up the whole trip. The food was AWFUL, when you can get it. The crew is AWFUL and openly sneer at passengers when you pass them in the walkways. Customer service and Excursion desk people are belligerent. The deck areas were always littered with towels and empties. Many of the passengers come from Europe and consequently are heavy smokers there by the ship reeks of tobacco. I would not take Costa at any price to any port ever again. BTW, virtually every passenger shares my opinion!

Wouldn't Recommend by linda49

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Boat was very dated. Things on the walls needed to be dusted and or cleaned. Food was awful. There was not a dinner buffet, at all, so you had to eat in the dinning room ever night or spend $35. 00 per person at the only other resturant on the boat. Alot of europeans and smokers, the boat reaked of smoke. And very rude people. (euopeans) State room was nice, we had a balcony, Only the windows on the balcony overlooking the ocean were very dirty. Don't think I would ever go on another Costa Cruise,it was very disappointing.

FEW REVIEWS, BUT A VERY GOOD CRUISE by francis32801

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean

We found a fantastic rate for this cruise, but the lack of reviews scared us to the point where we almost didn't book! But with friends willing to chance it with us, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The Costa Mediterranea is an Italian ship, so there were some differences compared to other lines we have cruised. We found more similarities than differences and we did not regret our decision to go at all!

Don't let the bed bugs bite! by JennaE

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Transatlantic

I've sailed with about a dozen cruise lines and Costa was by far the worst! From day one there were problems. I spent the first two hours trying to track down my transfer from the airport. Once I got to the ship I found no English language information in my cabin.

Worst cruise I have ever taken by DonH4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We take about three cruises a year from various lines. This was the frist we have taken from Costa. Food was not edible. We had to wait to the ports to eat becasue the food on the ship was so bad. We were with a group of 86 and all had the same opinion. Service was bad, when served bad wine they would not replace it but said they will try to do better next time. I can only tell people to avoid the Costa Fortuna in the Mediterranian if at all possible. You are treated very bad and they don't care. Complaints and concerns were met with no response.

Could of been a lot better by NinaH3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship is beautiful and easy to get around. Dinning room staff was terrible!!!. Got ignored constantly and did not seem to care. This is what happens when gratutites are manditory and added to on board account. I complained and it did not seem to matter. Our room steward was great as was our butler. Food is definitely not up to par for the price paid. Puerto Rico was filty and dirty. Never will go there again. Dominican Republic could be skipped too, with the conflict with Haiti, did not even get of the ship for that port. St Thomas and Grand Turks were great, but too little time in port. This cruise spent 2 days at sea, which was a waste!!!!!!!

Nice time again on Costa by WendyS10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship itself is beautiful not a thing overlooked, very clean and easy to get around. Costa does cater to Europeans and there does seem to be more non-english speaking people on this line. This did not bother me at all, in fact I found it nice to be able to see people from all over the world in one place, I did not encounter any rudeness either except from the customer service desk and the costa club attendant. Food was very good on this cruise and the buffet magnifico was excellent. I have been on one other costa ship and the food was so-so, this ships food was much better.
