Review summary

We found a fantastic rate for this cruise, but the lack of reviews scared us to the point where we almost didn't book! But with friends willing to chance it with us, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The Costa Mediterranea is an Italian ship, so there were some differences compared to other lines we have cruised. We found more similarities than differences and we did not regret our decision to go at all!

Food and Dining

Dinner in the dining room was very good quality and three themed nights (and our traveling companions) made it fun\, but be aware that it took an hour and forty-five minutes each evening. The buffet was poor\, e.g. runny eggs\, undercooked bacon\, floating hash with no slotted spoon for serving\, etc.

No one seemed to have any idea where the shuffleboard equipment was located. We had to just happen upon it.

Ship Quality

As a lark\, we decided to play shuffleboard. When we finally found it\, the shuffleboard equipment was in very poor condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

Pros: We enjoyed visiting three (of six) ports we'd never seen before. We also found the toga party at dinner one night to be great fun. The best fun was our traveling companions (met onboard two cruises previously) with whom we laughed away the minor annoyances and enjoyed all the great experiences.

Cons: We found very few reviews about this ship and this particular cruise which almost kept us from booking. The announcements in so many languages was an annoyance\, but I guess a necessary one. The buffet food was not good!

Recommends Costa Mediterranea? Yes!
