This was our first and last cruise with Costa Cruises. The ship was nice and clean, but the rooms are smaller than other cruise lines. Better bring your own shampoo and conditioner because shower gel is all you get. If you want body lotion or bar soap, you need to request. The food was substandard, not the 4 stars that we thought we'd be enjoying. The dining room and buffet menu were the same every day, the only difference being whether you wanted to dress up or not. The only late night "snacking" was pizza and hot dogs (4 stars??). If you wanted to eat in the specialty restaurant (costs extra) good luck getting a reservation. There were only 2 shows out of 7 that we didn't walk out of. The staff was pleasant but requests took a long time, sometimes didn't get what you wanted because they didn't understand you.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
We noticed on the second night that some tables got little appetizers of bruschetta and proscuito, we didn't receive ours until the third night. They made it look like they were treating you special to receive this.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
There were only 2 nights out of 7 that we didn't walk out of. I think I've seen better school productions with better costumes and choreography.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Staff was friendly and always acknowledged you, but some of your requests were not received because they didn't understand you.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Ship was nice, layout was the usual, very ornate lots of mirrors. Very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Staterooms are smaller than other cruise lines. Bathrooms are smaller too with only a shower stall.
A very depressing site. You get tackled just outside the security gate for bus rides, taxis and begging by very small children half-dressed and mangy dogs. The other side of the island looked to be more resorts, but were the ships dock is horrilbe, they let you off in the poorest section of the island. Apparently the island gets 20+ days of rain per month so don't bet on a nice beach day.
