barebones cruise by PaulM14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Skip Costa entirely. Below average experience due to the rudeness of the crew. Got very, very tired of being pushed out of the way by the crew, being ignored etc... A very tired crew. Pick a Carnival Cruise instead, it the same ship but the crew will make all the difference

disaster aboard magica! by DaneB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was the worst vacation i have ever been on. It was so auful i wished to sleep through it. I have never met ruder people in my life! passengers and crew. Only 100 or so people knew english so there were a swirl of languages going through the ship. My bedroom steward did not no english, therefore because we could not communicate took no care at all! The ship was dirty, food sucked, and the entertainment was just auful! More detail below

A+ cruise experience by LillianT1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Boarded on 4/8/07. The lines were long; but most people didn't have their paperwork completed. Once at the counter, we were on board in less than 10 minutes. Everything was in our room just as promised in the literature: shore excursions, prepaid packages and our room key. Room size was amble. Dinner selections were wonderful. Breakfast in the Lido was always the same; more variety in the dining room. The ship was clean. Several pieces of furniture was worn; but you had to look really hard to see anything wrong anywhere on the ship. The elevators were always polished and the glass without smudges. The casino was in a very odd place and was divided into 2 areas by a main corridor. There were a lot of kids on board. When they were with the Squok (Magica kids club) crew they were in a line and orderly. It was when the parents were suposed to be in control that there were problems. So you can't blame Costa. There were Costa representatives out on the dock at every port in their bright orange shirts to assist with questions and with excursions. They spoke several languages and were often on excursions to assist any Costa passenger and it also ensured that the excursion company was living up to their expectations. There were plenty of activities to keep busy and in case you missed one it was usually offered a second time later in the cruise. We don't attend shows but did watch some on the TV the next day. Costa offered more TV channels than I have experienced on other cruises. Liked the channel that gave info concerning the ship: engine room, kitchen and their green program (recycling).

outstanding by PattyE1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

this was my first cruise on the magica, and i thought it was topps. We had an excellent staff, good, (not great), but expected food, alot of fun, and non-stop entertainment. The rooms were clean and spacious, as I was told from others who had cruised before, I had no complaints

Left Lots To Be Desired by BonnieF3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Bermuda

Ship was nice. Staff wasn't helpful with the exception of our wonderul cabin stewardess.. Buffet had few choices. Dining room was a little better but servers didn't remember that we wanted lemon with your water. We wouldn't recommend Costa Magicia.

dancing is on this ship by DebbiD

Sail date: /
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Eastern Caribbean The entertainment was some of the best I have ever seen on a boat, very close to Vegas The crew- here is all I have to say. They do a good job but they are more concern with the task than the people. I think is the difference between a crystal cruise or princess cruise and costa. Please be aware that on this cruise English is NOT the main language. If you speak only English you are in the minority. Some crew members do not even speak English. The food- I would rank as very good but not excellent. Very different choices and pasta is served with every meal but again the waiters were concerned with the task and not the customer. They do not operate out of the box. I wanted 2 glasses with Ice tea and it was difficult to get.. I did not order soup or pasta and hense had to wait for the others at the table as the courses were served in order and together. The islands-Fort Lauderdale ( Sunday ) Never cruise during spring break. There were hundreds of extra people at the airport, hotels and restaurants plus all the prices had increased due to demand. We really had to idea. The board boards at 1:00 and not before. We were told 11:00 and waited in line Boarding was fast and easy compared to other ships as they had let us fax or e-mail in a lot of the information. Our rooms were not ready but there was an open buffet and entertainment so even thought we had been in the same clothes since the night before it was fine. The room was clean and large. It was easy to see it was a ship only a few years old. There is a safe, TV, ample closets and drawers, hairdryer, mini bar. We had the same stewart ( Angelina ) and she did an excellent job of getting our room clean the minute we left. We also asked for extra pillow and blankets and they were brought immediately. The bed was extremely hard and we failed to tell her but later found out they do provide other mattresses if needed. Day at Sea ( Monday ) The crew did an excellent job of providing entertainment all day long. It was very enjoyable. We were out early to get our seats and I noticed during the day that people were looking for a place to park but were not able to find one immediately but as they say you snooze you lose. San Juan (Tuesday ) We arrived about 3 which gave us time to shop and still be back for dinner. I love the shopping at San Juan. All of the tours provided we had been on before. Wish they could get there sooner so we could get to the beach but this is the same time all ships arrive Saint Thomas ( Wednesday ) this island is a shopping frenzie. Too much for us . We did enjoy the bus ride around the island for $25 each which was cheaper than what was offered by the cruise line. We had not signed up for a excursion as we had done all the ones we wanted but I would do one next time just to get away . Two hours on a boat is better than 2 hours on a bus any day Casa De Campo/La Romana ( Thursday ) This would happen to be my most unfavorite place in the carribean. Stay on the boat. The two excursions are one to town and the other to historical site. The buses were made for little people and no one fit . The excursions consists of a small park with flee market vendors. They were very expensive. They wanted ten dollars for a shot glass, fifteen dollars for a 2000 spoon. They have people there to speak English and use calculators to tell you how much it costs in dollars. There are several beggars. There was music and dancing but when you stopped for a photo they whispered one dollar donation please _ A guy was walking his goat and wanted you to take a picture of it and they asked for money. The historial site was not better. There places we had read about and wanted to go to but everything we wanted to see was too far away. It reminded me of Meridan, Mexico. Grand Turks ( Friday ) Oh my gosh I love this place and could have stayed here the whole trip. It is clean. It is pretty, There are no loca

Italian fun by PatK3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is an Italian line and not for first time cruisers as they did not give a lot of information out. My children loved it. The Cruise staff were excellent and they kept up the activities both in the day and the evening. The evening activities were fun with Italian night, Toga night and other themed nights. They even provided extra sheets and hats for Toga night and the vast majority of the cruisers participated.

We were on the Costa Magica from Ft. Lauderdale the last week of March. We really enjoyed it, our inside statement room was great, we didn't know what to expect as it was our first cruise, the room was large, very clean.

Not as good as last year! by JayneN

Sail date: /
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We sailed on the Costa Magica in early March 2006 and again in March 2007. We found that the quality of the food had gone done as did the dinning room service. The cabin service was great. The shows were the same as last year, but the other entertainment was very good. I am afraid that we found Princess and Holland to be a better cruise.

A Terrible Cruise by HarryC2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was terrible, we will never sail with Costa again. They had teenagers drunk on the ship, running around all night. They where on the stairs, hallways, gangway & the pier drunk & passed out. We actually had to step over a girl drunk & passed out in front of the gangway. When we got on the ship & in the elevator a girl was vomiting. There was the smell of vomit in the hallways & stairs. The Costa staff had no control over these kids. These kids where everywere. On formal nights they would be in the casino, cafe,& theatre wearing shorts with no shirts, while everyone else was dressed. We had to call security many times because of the noise. When we called customer service most times we could not get through because everyone else were complaining. WE WILL NEVER SAIL WITH COSTA AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Decent cruise by JanS6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The ship is very clean and classy. But it was very hard to understand every single one of their personnel. Tipping was charged to your account daily, so it seemed that the staff at dinner did not care too much about your wants or needs. They were very rigid, and actually made you feel guilty for not following their rigid schedule. Food was mediocre-the pasta was excellent, so this is what I looked forward to every day-not the main course. Desserts were ok Dining hours were not 24 hours. It seemed that every time we wanted to stop for a bite to eat, the dining areas were closed. Couldnt get a cup of tea or coffee after 915pm. I would not take this cruise line again, unless it was an awesome deal.
