10 Night Panama Canal Partial Transit Cruise

Sail Date: February 05, 2016

Reviewed: 9 months ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

We had an extremely enjoyable time aboard the Coral Princess. The ship is one of two smaller ones in the Princess line, because a small size is needed to go thru the canal, and passages in Alaska. We liked the somewhat smaller ship, tho the difference is not extremely apparent, in comparison to other ships we have been on.

We would have liked more time on land: unfortunately we were not able to dock in Costa Rica because of poor weather, and that was our long, 7.5 hour booked excursion.

The days at sea were relaxing and fun filled. My only complaint was that is was always really noisy on the deck, between bands playing and music coming out of speakers. For quiet we used our balcony.

The staff was, without exception, curteous and friendly.

One of my favorite experiences was joining the chorus!! We practiced for about 4 times, and put on a Sound of Music show in the atrium. It was wonderful!

Cabin / Stateroom
Very easy to navigate around.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Embarkation was really fast. For disembarkation, we had to wait in line for customs about 1/2 hour. Our recommendation: take your own luggage off the ship; it went very fast, as opposed to having to wait for disembarkation with a large group.
Ship Quality
Destinations and Excursions
Sadly, bad weather kept us from one of the ports we were really looking forward to, Costa Rica. But, we appreciated that our safety was the main concern. We liked the Panama Canal tour to the resort / butterfly gardens / areal tram / tower. Went to Eagle beach on our own at Aruba, which was great. Would have liked longer times docked for Aruba, and especially Cartagena.
Entertainment
The onboard choral / dancing troupe was fantastic, particularly their New Orleans show. Plus, they have only been together as a troupe a month or so. Very impressive!
Service and Staff
Food and Dining
The waitstaff was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was top notch. We met wonderful people at our table of 8, and the friendship we developed with them really enhanced the cruise. (We traveled with one other couple.)
Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida
Oranjestad, Aruba
Eagle Beach was close by via taxi, and lovely.
Cartagena, Colombia
Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)
Take an excursion. Many people stayed on the ship, and we really liked going on land.
Colon, Panama
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica
Could not dock.
George Town, Grand Cayman

Tip

Join the choral group! The choral leader (Melanie?) is fantastic, and putting on a show in the atrium the final day at sea was a joy.
