Overall we were pleased with our cruise. The ship was at 90% capacity, with 99% of crew fully (two shots and two boosters) vaccinated and 95% of passengers likewise vaccinated. But the entire people on board the ship had the minimum of two vaccinations. We never felt worried about catching the virus, except for once in an overcrowded elevator but just going down 5 decks was not long enough to pose any problem.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Our scheduled time was 12 - 12:30. We arrived at the Cruise Terminal in Cape Liberty at 11:15, sat down and at 11:45 allowed us to board the Summit
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We had the Premium Beverage Package. Our wine steward knew our fondness for Moscato and made sure our wine glass was always full. Then I was "introduced" to Martini's. The Leechee and the Chocolate martinis were my favorites. The food in Blu (as we were in Aqua Class) was great as we were able to also order from the MDR menu. So we had the best of both worlds or should I say restaurants.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Plenty to do, and to be as active or laid back as you wish. We used the Persian Garden Spa, along with the Solarium pool daily. It felt like heaven.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The shows put on in the theater were fantastic, except for two of the 10 performers/entertainers. We loved going to the Rendezvous Lounge or Cafe al Baccio to listen to the guitarists, singers in small intimate venues.
Children's Programs
No children as we're in our mid-sixties
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The waitstaff, wine steward and room steward went above and beyond. Any wish, any issue, any concern and they were right on top of it to make sure we had to issues what so ever. A shout out to Miller our head server, Sapursa his assistant, Conrad the wine steward (also Canver the Maitre'd and Ria the Hostess) and especially Madei our cabin steward all made this so enjoyable beyond words
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
We had been on the Summit back in May 2019 so we were very familiar with it's layout. It was clean and well cared for regarding safety for the virus issues at hand.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We decided to try Aqua Class, mainly to give the Spa perks a try and also to see if Blu restaurant was all it was claimed to be. As for the cabin, we were on Deck 11, the last cabin on the starboard side at the aft of the ship. So we had the whole expanse on that side and could peek around the partition and view the aft of the ship. The stairs down to the Sunset Bar (and Oceanview Grille) as well as up to the outdoor movie area were just outside of the door right next to our cabin. We heard no noise from the movie area above, no noise from the door to the outside stairways (it was on pistons to slow the closure of the door so it did not slam at all) and no noise below from the Oceanview Buffet. As for the cabin interior, it was no different than a regular veranda cabin. I measured the size of the cabin, it was 20 1/2 ft long by 10 ft wide. The veranda was 10 ft wide and 4 feet long which had two recliners and a small table. The bathroom was cramped, we had to squeeze into the shower in order to close the door to it, but overall it served its purpose.
Ship tip
If you plan on using your cabin as just a place to sleep, get changed and drop off your purchases from your excursions, then choose an Oceanview cabin and save half the cost of the cruise. Put that savings towards another cruise. Our next three cruises will all be in Oceanview cabins
We had never been to Charleston before. It was an amazing place. We took three excursions to plantations and the historic district. Make sure you go the The Market Place which is a five block long building with shirts, baskets, food, wood carvings, trinkets, souvenirs etc. We spent three and a half hours there looking at all the stuff.
We had our luggage ready the night before having been given our luggage tags. That morning we went to our disembarkation area (#15) and waited to be called off the ship. Things went quick through security, our luggage was found in the corresponding area #15. We walked out the door ........ and back into the reality of the real world.
