Review summary

Excellent cruise but was disappointed with 6 days at sea and the loss of two ports from the original itinerary. Service was great, ports visited were fine. Entertainment was excellent but did not care for the Celebrity singers and dancers.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Boarding at Cape Liberty was smooth and efficient and earlier than expected.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main Dining Room was excellent. Although we had Select Dining we were able to make a reservation one day before for the same table and waiter. It worked out great. Disappointed that there were only 3 Specialty Restaurants and one was only Sushi, which we do not like. We had purchased a 5 Specialty Dining package in advance. We ended up at Tuscan 3X and Quisine 2X. All excellent but purchasing a 3 Specialty Dining package in advance on this ship would have been sufficient. Classic Beverage package was great. If you ordered a premium beverage not included on Classic they just charged the difference.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Attended many on board presentation seminars on every sea day. Jim Kennedy, former Director of the Kennedy Space Center was OUTSTANDING.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Did not care for the stage shows with the Celebrity Singers and Dancers but the individual singers and , comedians were OUTSTANDING.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Received outstanding service from Waiters in the Main Dining, Port Excursion team and the Photo Team. All other services were good.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The Summit is aging. The common areas were kept clean but the outside of the ship needs better maintenance. Too much rust showing and outdoor hand rails needed maintenance. The design and layout of the ship was fine.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Comfort, size and cleanliness of the cabin was fine.

Ship tip

If you choose the Select Dining option, call for reservations the day before and if you have found a waiter that you like you could add that to your reservation and if possible they make it happen. It worked for us on 7 of the 8 days we had dinner in the Main Dining Room.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

4 out of 5
Embarcation went extremely well. Debarkation went slower due to lack of enough Porters to help.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Went to the Kennedy Museum which was outstanding. Could have spent all day there the tour only allowed 75 minutes but still glad we went.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
Rained all day so that severely negatively impacted our outdoor tour of a Celtic Village.

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
Quebec City is a great port this was our 3rd visit. Went on a tour of the Saint Anne De Beaupre Cathedral and a Copper Museum - both were great. Also went on an evening wine and cheese tour at a local restaurant.

Ville Saguenay, Quebec Did not visit port

Whale Migration. Was not happy about missing this port of call.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Toured the city by bus.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
Went to Acadia National Park, Cadallac Mountain and lunch at the Acoustic Inn. All great.

Portland, Maine

5 out of 5
Toured Portland by bus and then stopped for about 2 hours at Kennebunkport. From the bus saw the Bush estate.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Needed more Porters to help with luggage. Otherwise OK.

If the 2 ports were not accessible, that is not the fault of the cruise line. As for the singers and dancers, you might be a tad picky and critical.
