Review summary
Highs: Shows, music, service, no smoking in the casino
Lows: Tub in sky suite, Luminae restaurant
You know the old joke about two old ladies in the buffet line? The first remarks that the food is terrible and the second says "yes, and there is so little of it".
That is how I would sum up Luminae, the restaurant only for suite guests. Service in Luminae is fantastic. Dinners were not so great. Only a choice of four appetizers and four main dishes. The food was prepared fresh and presented nicely, but what they served was often such a bizarre combination that it was not appetizing.
Contrary to what I've read elsewhere, you cannot order off the Main Dining room menu if you don't like the offerings in Luminae.
On the third night in Luminae we got up right after the minuscule main dish was served and bolted over to the main dining room to eat. From then on we just used Luminae for breakfast (which they do a FANTASTIC job on) and lunch (just ok).
Now, onto the bathtub in the sky suite. This is was ridiculous. It was not a full sized tub, and would only handle a child (the shower was part of the tub). The side of the tub was few inches higher than a standard tub. I am 5'11" and the side of the tub came up over my knee. This made getting in and out of the tub treacherous. We got a handicapped step in order to help get in and out (a raised platform with a handle that comes up about waist high). Even then it was not easy.
In rough seas, even with the step device, we could not use the tub to take a shower.
I don't play in the casino, but since it is in such a central location you are often forced to go through it. How nice it is that smoking is not allowed in it!
So, overall we enjoyed the cruise, but we felt we spent a lot of extra money for a suite that didn't improve our experience.
