Nice cruise, not above or below average

Sail Date: February 15, 2009

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

The Celebrity Soltice is only a few months old and you can see that when it comes to cleanliness of the ship. Spotless. Beautifl pool area and many options to layout throughout the ship. Food is on par with other cruise lines. Wish they had more options when it came to booking excursions and room for more people on the excursions they do have. My husband was VERY disappointed with the smoking policies on the ship. We actually received a letter threatening a $250 fine if they thought he was smoking on our own balcony. It's common for there to be designated areas for smoking, but it would have been nice to know the EXACT policies and the fact that there was no smoking allowed on balonies and in the casino before we booked. Because of this, my husband doesn't plan on sailing on this particular ship again. Most of the staff went above and beyond - especially in the dining areas. Not so much at some of the bars.

Pros: Ship is very clean, beautiful pool and lots of options to catch some rays

Cons: Knew smoking would be in designated areas - did not expect one of those areas to be our own balcony and the casino

Recommends Celebrity Solstice? No.

Service and Staff
Ship Quality
Ship is only a few months old and is spotless. Never knew public restrooms could smell so good!
Food and Dining
Celebrity has figured out how to set up the common dining area so there are NEVER any long lines.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our room with a balcony could have been a tiny bit bigger. Didn't seem as large at Carnival. More storage areas would have been nice.
Labadee (Cruiseline Private Island)
Have to book the snorkeling excursion. The staff on that boat does an excellent job - explaining the gear, letting you either go on your own, or following one of their staff who points out different fish, coral that you might otherwise miss or not know what it is, are very friendly and do keep an eye on you in case you do get into some trouble.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
