Family/Friends Cruise by Cruiser83886823

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The dining experience, especially during dinner, was exceptional.  Service and food presentation/quality was great.  Drink package is worth the money, not just for alcohol but also for premium coffees and water.

2 weeks before Christmas by joycelevin1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Silhouette is a wonderful ship. We signed on for 4 of the specialty restaurants. The service was outstanding and meals were wonderful. If you had only one to choose the Murano is fabulous, table side presentation.

Celebrity is my favorite line, always fantastic. The service was outstanding, everywhere you went the staff was smiling and helpful.

We met lots of new friends and ran into some folks we hadn't seen from high school. Friends at sea!!

The lines for disembarkation were very very long, not 100% sure how to improve that.

The trip was wonderful and or your other names did a wonderful job. Thanks

Katrina for crossing the T's and dotting i...

Service excellent, very friendly staff, specialty restaurants outstanding (Qsine, Murano and Tuscan Grill).  Entertainment was better than average.  Comedians were very funny and the ship's in-house band was terrific.  Just a great relaxing week.  Happy

Mostly Fun with a few but significant missteps along the way by checker06

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Aqua Class  Deck 11 FW

The Positive

BLU Restaurant - our waiter Mustafa was by far the best waiter we had on ANY of our 20+ previous cruises with different cruise lines. Personable, professional, courteous, non-overbearing, perfect English, perfect knowledge of the foods serviced. An absolute GEM.

Also worth mentioning our hostess Marie. She always made sure to seat us in our desired area and made some wonderful choices for guests seated next to us for great conversation and companionship.

The Food in BLU: Simply fantastic. Breakfast as well as dinner = impeccable

The Tea and Coffee bar on Deck 5 was our favorite place to hang. Awesome pastries and cakes ruined my diet and to go cookies made a great mid night snack. Why however do you have to put creamy cakes and pies into a paper bag for take-out???  What a mess.

We also enjoyed our visit to Murano. We had been there several times on previous cruises and once again enjoyed great service and attention to detail. The food was great but the menu could use a little face lift. Even though all dishes are still great, it tends to get a little tired eating the same things again and again.

The ship overall was clean and well maintained. Public areas aplenty and never really crowded even on sea days.

We enjoyed all guest entertainers especially the "Late Night Adult Comedy". Although it is completely beyond me why people would bring an 11 year old to such a performance. Seeing the "youngster" the comedian (by his own admission) had to adjust his program and therefore robbed the actual adult visitors of many extra laughs.

Two lunch visits to the main dining room were pleasant, yet expected (rush in / rush out, hectic waiters, order food quickly, wait for food, find out that salad dressing teased on menu is not available, and so on)

We tried to avoid the buffet but need to mention the great selection of Indian dishes and desserts. The pizza station however is pitiful. Take a note from Carnival or Princess on that one.

The not so good and it gets worse...

After seeing three production shows we have to ask: Why don't you produce shows for the audience that actually sails on your ships. All shows were targeted to a young, hip crowd in their 30's (the most). Looking around the ship (on our cruise) the average age seemed to be 50+ and attendance as well as post show conversations made it quickly clear that the 15+ performers were singing and dancing their a$$ off for just a mercy applause and nobody mentioned anything other than the aerial performers.

What a waste of money and resources.

Our visit to "The Lawn Grill" was a mixed bag of tricks. Given that fact that it is a new restaurant concept on the ship we were really looking forward to the experience. While the proteins (steak, chicken, shrimp etc.) were nicely cooked, the side dishes and salad bar were disappointing and the presentation sloppy. Service was too casual with two competing sets of servers trying to "outjoke" each other. If that was intended, I consider it ill advised.

I found it particularly peculiar that the sauces, cheese and toppings for the flat bread were stored in the salad bar next to the salad bar items. Being a Chef myself, I know for sure that land based health inspectors would frown on that. Not a place I need to visit again anytime soon.

Daily and evening entertainment (other than pool side) seems to be more and more centered around money making venues: Bingo - set of cards $69.00 WTF?, auctions, watch seminar, designer introductions, health and beauty seminars all with the pitch for products, exhausting sidewalk sales of trinkets, watches, bags and so on.

Where are the "Enrichment Seminars", Cooking Demos, Guest Speakers, Trivia Games (not the overcrowded game show on Deck 4 in front of Quasar where only 100 people can actually see something.

Room Attendant: When we arrived the room was dusty, the carpet riddled with crumbles, black mold under the tiles in the shower, no bathrobes, no ice bucket or ice water...

After asking for the black mold to be removed, our attendant said he had to get "stronger stuff". The next morning, the mold area was cleaned and shiny, revealing all the other tiles that had not been cleaned and were still dull and grey. He did the minimum and that seemed to be his mantra.

During the course of the cruise toiletries were only refilled when asked and one day the toilet paper holder was completely empty. We got a jar of ice water on day 6 and the fruits were changed once. Pitiful performance. Since I had gratuities included I could not even make a point of "not rewarding" such mediocre service.

Now to the main complaint. On the first day we attended the mandatory "drill" and made our way down to the theater to muster station A 3. A sign was prominently displayed on the left side of the theater Deck 5. After entering the theater we were told to go to the other (right) side of the theater.  Arriving there, we were ushered downstairs to Deck 4. I mentioned that my wife just had two knee replacements this year but NOBODY cared or listened. Slowly making it down to Deck 4, we were told to take another set of stairs and sit close to the stage. I refused and my wife and I sat down on the handicapped seats on top of the staircase. A young man in a yellow vest came and rudely asked us to move on. After I explained that we had a handicapped room, her turned for a moment, came back a few seconds later and once again rudely asked me (I just had recent back surgery) to get up from my seat he had somebody "more deserving". I got up, stood behind my wife for the remainder of the drill. When the drill ended, like everyone else, we attempted to leave and the same person ordered us to sit down/ stay put, because the theater would be emptied from the front onward. I looked around and saw people getting up everywhere and moving in all directions after seeing that, I had it with the guy and asked for his name (the name tag was obstructed by the yellow vest).

He gave me a smirk and a pretentious grin and said his name was ALEX. Before I could ask anything else he quickly walked away into the leaving crowds.

I addressed the issue with the customer service desk and was told that a "Safety Officer" would get in touch with me once they found out who Alex was. I got a follow up call 24 hrs later asking if I had been contacted and when I said nobody did, I was told it would be arranged right away. That was the last time I heard from anybody about this issue.

We did a lot of cruises with Celebrity and it will not keep me from doing another one, but this experience leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and should have been appropriately addressed by the individuals in charge on the ship. I understand the a mandatory drill needs to follow a certain protocol but that is no excuse to behave like a jerk and overlook basic decency towards people with disabilities (even if not apparent or obvious).

Very hard to beat the value. by ericc1497

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Celebrity Silhouette has been the very best ship we have ever sailed. Spotless well managed. Smiles from the staff no matter were you roam. Entertainment was very good. Captain kept the ship very smooth despite the winds and sometimes larger waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Our next cruise without hesitation will be on Celebrity.

Not as good as previous years by kirkkiml

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The quality of the food is not as good as previous cruises. They have more specialty resturants that you pay extra for. there where too many ships in the ports at one time making it crowded. Internet was too expensive!!!!

Thanksgiving Cruise by rhondaf242424

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my 66th cruise and 4th on Celebrity. I was very disappointed in the cruise . The ship was not as elegant as others, taking formal night away was a poor decision did not sit well with myself and several others I met on the ship who were commenting about it and brought formal attire with them, Also,  having no Caribbean music at all which sets the mood when at least sailing out of port and playing top 40 songs instead takes away from the cruise experience. The food overall was about a 7 on a scale of 1-10 for both the cafe and the dining room and the Cruise Director was a joke. This was my sisters first cruise and definitely not up to what I had been telling her about cruising. We also had issues in the dining room with our seating it took a couple of nights to get it right and at best the seating was just okay. Luckily this was not my first cruise but it left me with a different outlook on Celebrity.

Major Disappointment by qlex4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Favorite part of the cruise was the included drink package.  Food and service was mediocre at best. Some meals were literally inedible, and staff ran around totally stressed and disorganized. Celebrity used to have a reputation for great food and pampered service, but obvious lacking. I suspect cost-cutting. There could be no other excuse.

Great Family time on cruise! by kngene

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

Although the weather was iffy at times, being with family was worth the weather. The ship offered something for everyone, fabulous food, beautiful accommodations and common areas and one of the friendliest Crews we've experienced in our 10 cruises.

A nice relaxing cruise by tbow53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Transatlantic

Always get a port side room (odd numbered) on the East-West crossing and a starboard side room (even numbered) on a West-East crossing. That way you have sun in your room every day.

Use the public transportation (bus, tram, train) in the ports and save yourself some money.

If you get an international plan on your Verizon phone, you can check your e-mail and text while at sea. You can also make calls. Just be sure your don't except your plan limits.

Fabulous crossing the Atlantic....much easier way to adjust to time changes! by sheribeckman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Transatlantic

If you have not experienced a Transatlantic cruise in your lifetime.....better sign up -  these are very popular itineraries.  We took the April 15, 2016 to Barcelona and November 5th Rome to Ft Lauderdale.  Celebrity has so many choices in how to spend your "sea" days when you do reach a port it's like....do we have to get off the ship today?  Both were wonderful itineries - what more could one ask for Barcelona and Rome in the same year!

Great family time on a transatlantic by franklinlopez81

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Transatlantic

Although is not the first time me and my wife sailed with celebrity this was our first transatlantic. It was a very nice experience, we love pretty much every minute we spent on the boat. There's only one little observation about the food quality, our previous experience on other celebrity boats were just slightly better, however overall everything was perfect.

Celebrity Silhouette Transatlantic Cruise - Nov. 2016 by Highlander1950

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Transatlantic

Our favorite part of the cruise were the 9 relaxing days at sea.  The weather was beautiful and the seas were calm.  Ports of call were great, the food was excellent and the entertainment was spectacular.  Most cruisers on board were not first time cruisers and many had done previous Trans Atlantic cruises before.  We would definitely do this cruise again and also recommend this cruise to our friends.  This was also our third cruise on Silhouette.  It is a wonderful ship.

Fifteen plus days of delightful people, places and experience by Cruiser85117270

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Transatlantic

This cruise and the pre-trip in Florence was exceptional.  Starting with the hotel in Florence that was right around the corner from the Duomo and ending with our group farewell party, this experience was filled with good times, great stops and fun.  The ship was wonderful and Aqua Class service was delightful. The crew was attentive.  Our Stewart provided for our needs, sometimes before we knew we needed it.  The dining experiences were both yummy and relaxing.  The dining room staff were efficient and personable.  The ship amenities and activities were abundant. My favorite was knitting in the library with new found friends. The ship's Itinerary took me places in a style I can't wait to bookagain.  Oh, wait, I have!

Great Cruise by dlenning

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The ports of call were fabulous.  The ship was laid out nicely, providing everything that is needed.  The art throughout the ship is excellent - you have to get around to all parts of the ship, including the stairwells and specialty restaurants to see it - its everywhere.  We became aware of it due to an excellent presentation entitled "The art of the Silhouette" or something like that, given by one of the ship's Beyond the Podium" series speakers (Dr. Fishman - he was excellent.  The dining room menus were very good.  The food in the cafeteria on deck 14 was just average in our opinion.  The staff (stateroom, dining, and everywhere else) were great!

Amazing Trip by cherylshipley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was our first trip to Europe and wanted a good taste of the Western Mediterranean.  This cruise fit the bill!  There was a good taste of all the countries we visited. The time in port was enough to do everything we wanted to do.  There were plenty of fun entertainment options for the evenings and the days at sea.

Celebrity Silhouette by 2wings

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The itinerary was great, the ship was very clean and the service was great.  However, the additional charges for for coffee, water or drinks was outrageous.  $14.08 for two cups of coffee was heavy as was $6.49 for a bottle of water and the coffee you  don't pay extra for was undrinkable.  These prices are penalties for not buying the beverage packages, which are grossly overpriced unless you drink fluids all day nonstop. The specialty restaurants are way over priced for cover charges as well.  Even the Porch Grill had a $30 per person charge for burgers and sandwiches.  At the end of the cruise, it doesn't feel like you got such a great deal afterall.
