Review summary

Always get a port side room (odd numbered) on the East-West crossing and a starboard side room (even numbered) on a West-East crossing. That way you have sun in your room every day.

Use the public transportation (bus, tram, train) in the ports and save yourself some money.

If you get an international plan on your Verizon phone, you can check your e-mail and text while at sea. You can also make calls. Just be sure your don't except your plan limits.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Overall, pretty good. Coldcuts were of medium quality. Too many specialty restaurants. Beef did not seem to have a beefy flavor.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Seminars were good and informative. The forensics presenter has weak platform skills - she read the PowerPoint slides to the audience and sometimes stated slide details incorrectly.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
House band was excellent. House entertainers and other bands were mediocre. All contract entertainers except for the juggler were great. It would have been nice to see the contract entertainers do a matinee or other casual entertainment. Cruise Director, John, is capable and friendly.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Main Dining Room staff and room steward were great. Most members of crew are outwardly friendly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Crew kept after the details to keep the ship clean and tidy.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a great room. It is the lowest deck with a veranda and all the forward. Since it is on the port side, the room has sun all day when going east to west across the Atlantic.

Ship tip

Use Google Maps and download the maps of each port area before you depart. That way you can use the GPS feature on your maps to figure out where you are in the port. We used less than 100mb of data during the cruise.

Ports of call

If you are able, walk to the nearest bus stop and use public transportation.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
skip the cruise bus and walk to the nearest bus stop and use the public transportation. It will save you some euros.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

5 out of 5

Tenerife, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Tenerife had the best price of all the ports. Make sure you have very clear directions to the VAT office, which is in the Guardia Civil building. The Guest Services map is not very useful. Also, get directions to the post office before you leave the ship so you can mail your VAT refund voucher.
