My husband and I were excited to celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary and my birthday on a celebrity cruise as my husband wanted to see more of Asia. We did not have an enjoyable experience unfortunately and will probably not cruise in future.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Booked Aquacalss and curtly advised we were standard boarding
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
BLU was Spectacular Service & Amazing Food
MDR was average service and food
Buffet was disappointing except for breakfast which had a wide variety
Sushi restaurant disappointing (My husband did enjoy his sushi order) I received warm miso soup that hat had the powder caked on the bottom and a very tasteless roll
Tuscan Grill disappointing (filet mignon was over cooked for medium rear, I removed the char exterior and the center was perfect) and the sommelier rude
Drinks were VERY good at ALL bars (we enjoyed the premium beverage package)
Blu
5 out of 5
We looked forward to dinner every evening when dining at BLU The entire team were AMAZING
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We did not participate in the onboard activities on the cruise and found the shore excursions to be lackluster with a few exceptions. The transport time to tour location was much to long and exhausting (2+ hours each way) and some of the tours disappointing (Indian Cave Temple with stairs)
Entertainment
5 out of 5
entertainment was very enjoyable
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The teams were remarkable, from the coffee bar to the deckhands. Our room steward aal was simply spectacular and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. BLU restaurant team members were ALL just amazing (especially Rex & Rachel) and we enjoyed every evening we dined with them. Cafe bacio team were excellent and my pistachio latte was perfect each time. The martini and other bars teams were excellent. Service was 5 Stars throughout the ship. Owen & Brian in the buffet area were great
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Its an older ship but the elevators, coffee bar and lounges were well placed and very convenient
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Cabin size was comfortable and the balcony good size however it has an extremely musty damp carpet smell throughout the trip that was masked with carpet deodorizers daily. The cabin was very well kept/cleaned daily
Ship tip
if it during the summer period for the destination carry a small portable hand held fan the ship ac is lacking
Appreciate your sharing of the first cruise and congratulations and best wishes for your celebrations.
We're fans of the Millennium and it's sister ships. We've cruised 5 times on that class and had some hiccups but never a trip to make us quit cruising.
Sad to hear of the miss at Tuscan as it is in our must visit list each cruise regardless of ship.
We've cruised Aqua class and found the marketing and messaging from Celebrity leaving us to assume incorrectly in service levels. For example it is priced and offered as an upgrade or premium above concierge class, but it doesn't include the concierge... Also for Blu we learned late in our cruise that anything from MDR was also available in Blu so if one of us wasn't excited about the Blu menu there were options off the Blu menu. Our debarking experience was less than ideal in Aqua as well. We discovered we weren't the target audience for Aqua and stick concierge or the other premiums when we splurge.
Well at least you tried cruising. It’s not for everyone. Every cruise will have minor issues like you documented so if those make you to never want to try again then should look for another type of vacation. Good luck.
