We decided that this type of cruising is not for us. We are retired and spend the Winter in Florida and don't need a break from the tedium. However if you need a break and want good food and service, this is the cruise for you. Short and sweet!!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
If you are prepared with preboarding papers filled out, it is one, two, three and you are up to the buffet for lunch.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food on Celebrity is top notch. The breakfast and lunch buffets are "international" with breakfast and lunch having an Asian, English and American breakfast area, and at lunch, you have even more choices and if you want to eat light there are many choices as well. You cannot beat Celebrity for quality and the number of choices for food.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The pools are crowded especially when you are at sea and everyone is on board. People go up right after breakfast and even before breakfast to leave towels and reserve lounge chairs. There are games going on at the pool and around the ship, we are not "game" people and the days at sea can be long if you don't like sitting around. There is a walking track on deck 11 and we made use of it. If you like to drink, the servers will keep one in your hand at all times. Keep in mind cruising is definitely for relaxing and unwinding.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We went to the show every night. The talent was unbelievable and extremely entertaining. These were some of the best shows we have seen on any ship.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Most of the time you don't even have to ask and it is all ready done for you. The crew and staff are extremely service oriented. Everyone smiles and asks how you are doing, they seem happy and that makes it easier for you. We loved our waiters in the Trellis Diningroom and they were almost tearful when we left. They only had to see you once and they knew your needs for every meal.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship itself was clean but shabby. The carpets looked worn and stained and the furniture looked like it has been well used. The ship needs a makeover and we heard it is going to get one after the Summer season. The rooms were dated and the balconies had some rust and mildew on the plastic separating the balconies. We will give them a pass because the ship is on its way to being made over.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Couldn't beat the location, two doors from an elevator and two floors up from the theater. At night all we had to do was walk up to our stateroom. It was a long walk to dining on deck 10 but that is good for the appetite and the weight you will gain from eating. Our room was quiet and had an unobstructed view of the beautiful sunsets. The room is smaller than the Solstice class ships but it was adequate for any cruise ship. We were both comfortable and you really don't spend much time in your room anyway.
Ship tip
We used the select dining, make sure you make your reservation each night for the next night.
We used the Conch Train hop on, hop off train. It has four stops and the driver is a tour guide as well. For a small island you do a lot of walking even with the train. We ended up walking 3 miles. We visited the Butterfly Conservatory which was very beautiful, but a little crowded. Check Trip Advisor there is plenty to see and do and you can't do it all in one day.
Cozumel is a honky tonk stop. Plenty of booze shops, t shirt shops, souvenirs and jewelry. This island depends on tourists and you know that right away. We did the Mayan Ruins and Chocolate Factory tour and loved it If you like ancient history it was fascinating. Our tour guide was of Mayan ancestry and had studied it in college. The Chocolate factory was more than a tourist trap. You really learn the history of chocolate how it was used by the early peoples and how it later became a European and World sensation. You also get to taste numerous flavors of chocolate.
It was a little slow but this may have been the fault of the dock facility. It also took a while for the bags to come off the conveyor belt. Get ready there are a lot of people all waiting for rides and tons of luggage, so stock up your patiences
